Surgeon Testimonial

Richard Babor
I was/am very pleased I chose Richard to do my surgery. He listens and is concerned. He follows up and is very professional. I would recommend him.

He is a bariatric surgeon for Counties Manukau DHB in Auckland as well as having a private practice. His preference is to do the sleeve, but he listens to one's concerns and carefully explains his rationale.

I had no problems with the surgery or the care. He explains the risks carefully.

Things moved quickly for me and I saw him twice before surgery and the dietician once. Twice in hospital post-surgery and dietician once and physiotherapist twice as well. There is not a very structured aftercare programme:- appointment to see him at about 2-3 weeks and 6 weeks after that. Dietician at about 6 weeks. But as everything seems to be going smoothly, I don't know how often I will see him going forward. He didn't refer me to the psychologist nor is there a support group organised through his practice... but he didn't feel I needed to see the psychologist and I agree.

Surgical competence and bedside manner are great. Very impressed with him and everyone that works with him.

8 months today.

So my weight this morning is 75.9kgs (97 pounds) .  I have lost 44.1kgs since surgery and 49.1kgs since the beginning of this journey.  I have lost 56.6 kgs from my heaviest ever, thats 124.5 pounds.

I have gained as well, gained in energy and stamina but more importantly in confidence and happiness.  I have also exchanged one addiction for another - I now buy clothes... lots and lots, but almost never pay the full price.  I shop on-line for 2nd hand designer items, or buy on sale or outlet stores.

I do need to take some photos,...I keep saying that but I will soon, I promise.
