Surgeon Testimonial

Garth Davis M.D.
Dr. Davis was not what I had expected after watching 'Big Medicine'. He was professional, no nonsense and confident. He asked if I had any questions and the question that I did have was more of a concern or worry. He answered my question and told me not to worry. With the confidence that he exhibited that worry was alleviated at that moment. What more could a person ask for? He is serious about follow up care and support meetings and rightfully so.

The office staff seemed helpful, nice and patient.

I went to see my PCP to day.  I explained to him that I was again attempting to qualify for bypass.  I will never forget the look on his face, he made a look like that should be easy enough.  I asked for a sleep study and antidepressants.  A referral was made for sleep study but h refused the antidepressants that I have taken on and off for 10years.  He stated that we needed to do one thing at a time.  He also ordered labs and congratulated me on stopping smoking almost 1 year ago ( he was th eone who prescribed the Chantix for me to quit).

Today was my first session of weight management.  They took a before photo....OMG!!!

The session with the counselor was the most difficult of all.  I belief that my weight is the root of everything in my life that is negative.  Realistically I know this is not possible, but I would sure like to find out.

The dietician put me on a 1400 cal/day high protein diet.  It really does not look that difficult.  I think it is more about planning ahead and not waiting till Iam starving and going to the refrigerator grabbing the first thing I see.  We'll see.

I really only want to loss a couple pounds a month.  My fear is if I loose too much the insurance surely will not pay for the procedure.

The insurance verifier and I have been playing phone tag.  Finally today he and I connected.  He stated that I have benifits for bypass.  I will have to attend 3 months of medical weight management first.  So, I called to schedule with methodist medical weight magement.

Tonight along with my 11 y/o daughter I attended yet another weight loss seminar.  I have tried three times to have the surgery with out sucess.  It is my opinion that my height of 5'10" hurts not helps me.  I now weigh 280lbs, that gives me a BMI just over 40.

My daughter and debated about the surgery on the way to Methodist hospital.  At her ripe old age she thinks that the procedure is an extreme method of weight reduction.  I tried hard to describe to her what being morbidly obese was like.........all she could say was.....like the mom on "Hairspray", I said yea, I don't want to be like that.  I cried...she hates it when I cry.
