I am 33 years old and have fought being overweight most of my life.  I was always the "biggest" kid in my class, I was the tallest and always felt awkward. As I have gotten older I have continued to gain weight. I started this journey just a few weeks ago. I tried to have wls in January of 2004 and before I could get approval from our insurance company our policy changed and a rider was added that stated no wls period! So I gave up on it for 3 years, until this May. My sister  who works with me and lives with me decided it was time for her to seek some help. I was supportive of her and then it became real to me that I was going to get left behind if I didn't figure out a way for me to work this out too. Long story short, I changed insurance (dropped off of my husband's group policy and bought an individual policy from bcbs of nc), and started this journey again. I called and scheduled an appointment on May 24, 2007 with the same Psych I had seen in 2004 and he approved me in one visit, I scheduled a visit with my PCP on June 1 and saw the surgeon and nutritionist on  June 4, 2007. After a few attempts getting bloodwork pulled etc... the surgeons office submitted by info to bcbs on June 13 and by that afternoon I had approval for RNY! Surgery is scheduled for July 2, 2007. I know this is not typical, many many prayers have gone up over this and I know God is in control!  But here is the best - My sister and I are scheduled for surgery on the same day!!! We can't wait to start our new life.
