RNY Surgery is done.
on June 22, 2008 6:10 am
Today is Sunday June 22, 2008.  I went into the hospital on Tuesday June 17, 2008 for my RNY surgery.  At 9:30a.m. I was excorted to the 3 floor of the hospital to get prep for the operation.  My mother and my cousin Joyce were with me.  I remember kissing them and Dr. Schramm saying a little prayer.  The next thing I knew I was in my hospital room and my mom and cousin were leaving.  The nurses, doctors and all the staff at The Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti Michigan were the nices, caring, attentive staff I have ever had the pleasure of coming into contact with.  They were awesome.

I stayed in the hospital for 2 days.  I was released on Thursday.  My husband came to pick me up.  I was so ready to sleep in my own bed.  My mother- in- law came and took the kids on Thursday, they will be coming home today.  I miss them terribly.  I have cried for them more than once since I've been home.  But I knew they were in the best place because I was in no condition to take good care of them. But my husband just left to go pick them up, I am so excited, they will be home in about 2hours so I must stop here to start a good home cooked Mommy meal for them.  I'll continue later

My Story

Hello Fellow Members,

I am a 44 year old wife and mother of 3 children.  I am
currently 310 lbs.  I have always had weight issues.  I started
gaining weight in 1979 when I was in the 9th grade.

I am having this surgery not only to look and feel better but
also to be able to give my 11 yr old, 3 yr old and 1 yr old a better,
 happier life.

Today is April 13, 2008.  I have already been approved for the gastric bypass
surgery.  My journey started Feb. 29, 2008. This is the day I called and made
an appointment for a group consultation.

March 13, 2008,  Date of the Consult. Also the day I found out that I weigh
310 and BMI was over 51.  And because of such a high BMI, I would only have
to get a Psy Evaluation.  I would not need a letter from my PCP.

March 25 and 26, 2008,  Date of Psychological Evaluation.  Pretty easy stuff.
Family history and family background information.  Also had to take a test
simular to an IQ test.  Lots of the same questions over and over again.
Dr.  promise to fax into office in a couple of days.

April 8, 2008 called in hospital to see if psy eval was in.  Not yet.  Waited
about 3 more days, called again, the papers were there.  Happy Happy Joy Joy.  I was told the papers had to be sent to the insurance company.  They would give me a call in about a week to let me know if the surgery was approved or not.  I could wait I called them back 3 days later, (no word) I called again 6 days later.  The receptionist, Dawn I believe her name was, promised me she would call me the next day because she believed I had been approved but she had to check one more thing.  Next day APPROVED.  Now I just had to wait for the scheduler to call with my surgery date.  I was to excited I called her as soon as I got to work the next day.

June 17, 2008.  Is my surgery date.  I am excited, nervous, worried and anxious all at the same time.
