The Official Beginning of My Life Changing Journey

Sep 30, 2012

Well, tomorrow, October 1, 2012, marks the beginning of the last month of my physician supervised diet.  WOO HOO!!

I commit to changing my eating habits in preparation for my surgery that I hope to have by December, 2012.  I am also going to implement a regular fitness/exercise schedule that I can maintain.

As I sit and think about the last 3 months of the year ahead of me, I am anxious but excited.

I have always been the 'chubby' kid as a child.  Then, I grew up to be the fat girl in gym class and the biggest person in my circle of friends.  I weighed 295 lbs going to my junior high school prom in 1987.  That was my lifetime highest weight.  I gradually lost some of that weight and maintained around 250 lbs.  Around 2002, I began enjoying Billy Blanks Tae Bo DVD's and lost more weight.  Between 2004-2007, I weighed between 230-245 lbs.

In 2009, I turned 40 years old and I married the love of my life.  Of course, lots of things started changing at this point.  In 2010, I started back exercising seriously - Tae Bo, P90, Insanity, and C25K.  I also stopped smoking after 26 years!  In 2011, I started having hypothyroid issues and again started gaining weight plus various other issues arose including periomenopausal symptoms, fatigue, depression, chronic constipation, etc..  At the same time, my husband and I were in the process of relocating to N.C. from Maryland.  Needless to say, the stress and depression only worked to worsen all of my symptoms and problems, especially weight gain.  I ballooned to 270 lbs only 6 months after moving.  The weight made it difficult to exercise because my joints hurt and I was chronically out of breathe from simply walking,

My sister had gastric bypass surgery almost 3 years ago and I said I would never do it.  But, at this point, I am ready.  I am confident that I can make the changes needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle after this jump start.  The gastric bypass tool will definately help me get back on track.

So, as I begin the month of October, I am striving to do the followng:

*  increase water intake
*  practice eating and drinking separate and apart from each other
*  eat 3 meals per day, no snacking
*  exercise at least 5 times per week
*  increase strength building to gan and maintain muscle
*  increase protein intake
*  get proper rest
*  take vitamns regularly

I have my next appointment with the surgeon on November 5th to set a surgery date, hopefully.  By then, I hope to be at least 10 lbs lighter than I am today.  I also hope to be eating healthier, with an emphasis on protein intake.

I might not have another 42 years here.  I've conquered smoking and this weight is my next mountain to climb.

This is the beginning of the new me!!  I'm worth it!!!!

Let's do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
