Surgeon Testimonial

Joseph M. Vitello M.D.
Dr. Vitello was upfront and no-nonsense about all aspects of surgery which I appreciated. He visited me in the hospital and answered any questions I had. He did a great job (also had to take my gallbladder due to stones). His nurse Holtcamp is also wonderful. She will answer any questions you have.

Wednesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~JudyAnne~

The Doctor's scale and my scale are off by 10 pounds so I'm going to go by my scale here at home since I won't be seeing the doctor as much as my scale at home;)

3 year surgiversary
on February 7, 2011 4:12 am
Today has been 3 years since my gastric bypass procedure.  Every day I am thankful that I had it done.  There are so many things that I am able to do now that I wasn't able to do before the surgery.  I am so much healthier.  Thank you to my surgeon.

Well, last Friday, February 6, 2009 was my one year surgiversary.  I am so thankful that I had the gastric bypass done.  I am so much healthier than I was was a year ago.  I had my vitamins and a1c checked and it all was good.  A little low normal on vitamins and 5.5 on a1c. I started at 254, end of January 2008, and am now 135.  My a1c was 11.3, August 2007, now 5.5.  I am now able to:

 1.  sit criss-cross applesacue
 2.  wrap my arms around my knees (and still be able to breathe:)
 3.  Run down stairs without falling
4..sleep on my tummy without a pillow
 5.  pick up something off the floor in the van while still wearing my seatbelt and breathing
 6.  do a cartwheel
 7.  shop in the juniors/misses section at a store
 8.  Wear "hooker" boots and not feel stupid
 9.  eat just a bite or two of something sweet
10.  tell people how hard the surgery is but all the rewards are worth it
11.  my feet and legs don't always hurt, just sometimes
12.  buying pretty underwear and bras (is it possible to have too many?)
13.  I know there's more,will update at a later time

Wow!  Having this surgery was the best thing I've ever done.  For my health, my kids.  I took my daughter to the doctor and we ran down the stairs.  I was able to skip every other step and didn't fall once.  I did manage to beat her down the stairs.  Since we have moved twice I can't find my sewing stuff so I can't do my measurements.  I did measure my waist at a friend's and it was 35 inches.

Wow!  I can't believe that it's been over a month since my last entry.  The time has just flown by.  I'm currently at 140 in the morning and 145 at night. I can fit into size 8 jeans and am wearing a large shirt.  My size 12's are too big (never thought I'd say that).  but they are still my favorite.   I'm going to try and get to my measurements in the next couple days but no promises.  I got married on October 11, 2008 and life still seems pretty miuch the same, except now I say husband instead of boyfrined.   I keep forgetting to sign things with my new name though :)

My Story

Hello all.  I am almost 32, have always thought I was fat, and have been fat since I had my first child in 1995.  I didn't eat real healthy while pregnant and gained 60 pounds.  Only lost 30 after I had him so I wasn't that great to look at.  Over the years I've had another child (1998), started/stopped smoking, and gained/lost a lot of pounds.  I looked into wls years ago but never did anything but look.  My daughter's friend's aunt had the surgery done almost a year ago and I really started looking into it.  Saw the surgeon in April 2007 and he said I was a candidate.  Lots of different stuff (as you all know) to do so I kind of let it simmer on the back burner.

Lost one of my insurances in August and also found out I have Type 2 Diabetes.  Well, this upped my chances of getting surgery so I did what needed done by Nov.  The doctor's nurse sent in all info. at end of Nov. and I got my approval letter right before Christmas 2007.  I called her, she took my info., talked to doctor and called 2 days later to tell me my date is Feb. 6, 2007.

This happened so fast, I'm still kind of reeling but am excited.  My kids are not sure what to think but don't like the thought of me being gone for so long (almost a week) while I get my surgery done. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on (literally and computer) and trying to talk to people that have had it done.
