I'll be thinking of you tomorrow as you have your DS. You know it's the first day of the rest of your lift. This time next year, you'll look back on today and just marvel at all the changes you've made. Dennie

Hi there!  My name is Heather and I am 39 years old, I have been married to Greg for 16 years.  We have twin girls who were born on Greg's birthday, they are almost 14, we also have a son who is 12.5 years old.  I am currently attending college to become an Elementary School teacher.  I am majoring in English/Language Arts with a minor in Elementary Education.  I went back to school in the fall of 2004 and am almost ready to apply to the College of Education to begin my Teacher Assisting and then Student Teaching!

I was not overweight growing up, when I was a senior I was a 10/12 and weighed approximately 125lbs.  My parents divorced and I began eating.  I met Greg when I was 18 and he has always loved me, through thick and thin.  For the past 20+ years I have dieted, exercised, purchased every piece of fitness equipment out there, and joined numerous health clubs.  Unfortunately, the weight has crept higher and higher.  The most I have ever weighed was 307lbs.

I want and need to have surgery, not only to be healthy but also for my family.  My husband plays ice hockey 3x a week and all 3 kids are sports nuts, they all play select soccer, run track, and cross country.  We love to go to Cedar Point Amusement Park and horse back ride, all of which I bring a book to read while the family has fun.  I am so ready to join them in all their adventures and be able to keep up with them without feeling like I'm going to die from exhaustion!

I am so ready for my journey to begin!!

3 days before surgery

Ok, I have not update my blog in a while, I have been too busy reading everyone else's posts.  I have been on the liver reduction since Jan. 5th and have done quite well on it so far.  My date is getting closer and I am starting to get more nervous.  Oh boy, I cry at everything right now.  I would like to say it's the fear of the unknown but I know that it's not.  My best friend is five months out with her DS and she loves it!   Plus, I am here so much I know what to expect.  I think some of my emotions is that my husband will be able to take me to the hospital with my mom but after I go into surgery my husband is leaving for the week on business.  My mom is staying with the kids and my inlaws are helping too.  I wish my dad would be there too but he is one of those SNOWBIRDS and is in Florida right now.

I have my bag packed with everything I need according to all my friends here on OH.  My friend, my Angel will let everyone know how my surgery goes.

Waiting for approval

So here I am...I decided I needed to make a change...forever.  I went to the seminar on a Monday, Friday that week I met with the internist and dietician.  The following Monday I met with the behaviorist and on Wednesday I met with the surgeon.  I had my blood drawn after the internist visit and have an upper gi scheduled on Dec. 22.  This seems to be moving along pretty fast.  Yesterday the letter was sent to the insurance company...now the waiting begins.  I am very nervous and anxious wondering how long it will be before I hear either yes or no.  This will probably be one of the most difficult part since I have already decided I want and need to do this, but now it's up to the insurance company as to whether they agree with me and my doctor.
