Surgeon Testimonial

William Graber M.D.
I met my surgeon on July 23, 2007. I was very nervous about this first appointment with him. I had nothing to be nervous about. He was great. He is a no nonsense kind of guy with a sense of humor who will tell you exactly what is on his mind. No sugar coating it from him (thankfully). He was patient, informative, answered any question I had and some I never thought to ask. He explains the entire surgical procedure so you can understand it without confusion. I didn't feel rushed through, or unimportant. rnrnHis office staff is great!!!! I have only been a few times but so far they are very nice and easy to talk with. And the best thing is it really feels genuine. You really feel that you have people behind you 100% for the first time ever. Everyone I have met at there office is committed to seeing you through every step of WLS. They have set up all my appointments from now until my surgery date. They are also \"dealing\" with my insurance company for approval so I don't have to at this point.rnrnBoth Dr. Graber and his staff stress aftercare a lot. Lots of pre-op and post-op appointments, support groups before and after surgery. Long term communication between you and the office. (I will be able to add more once I go through surgery and my other apts. i'm sure)rnrnI know theres not a negative word in here. I am sure not everyone would like Dr. Graber as much as I did right off. If you want a Dr. to pat you on the hand and tell you it's all ok then he is not the Dr. for you. I wasn't joking when I said he will tell you what he thinks. I prefer this type of Dr. A good friend of mine is also a patient of his and she does not like his \"bed side manner\" she feels he is to gruff, to blunt for her tastes and that he could use a little compassion. I disagree.rnrnI will write more once I have progressed further through my wls journey......rnrnI think my overall rating for Dr. Graber would be a solid 9 at this point. rn

My Story

10/16/07
Let's see....Where to begin.  I have been overweight my entire life for starts.  Chubby kid, to a chubby teen.  Slimmed out a few years in high school by basically starving myself.  Then started to really pack on the weight when I hit my 20's.  I have always had a huge appetite, but my biggest problem was I stopped being as active as I was in my teens when I started working full time when I was 20, and my weight climbed from 180's to now at 27 I am 360lbs(or was, I had my RNY on the 10th of October 2007).  I made this decision 6 months ago to have RNY because it was time for me to get serious about my health and my future.  I had been looking into this surgery for 2 years prior to my "final" decision.  But always made the excuse that I could do it another way, or that the surgery was too risky, etc, etc, etc.  Basically I was lying to myself and makeing excuses to keep on eating.  I took my life back into my hands and called my PCP and she gave me my referral to a wonderful DR. here where I live.  I am now 1 week post-op and am scared and excited about what my future has in store for me.
