Surgeon Testimonial

Garth Davis, M.D.
I had my lapband surgery in Hawaii but I have since moved to Houston Texas and have found a new surgeon. Dr. Davis is going to do my lapband removal and my revision to bypass. I was very excited to meet him and I have had a great exerience when going into the office. I am not a fan of one of the PAs but I discussed that with Dr. Davis and he is okay with me requesting to see him when I come in. I am ready for the next part of this journey to begin for me and I know i am in great hands.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I ate constantly for many reasons. Sometimes I just wanted to eat something that was "yummy". Sometimes it was emotional eating, and sometimes I ate because I was just bored. I often hid behind my weight. I didn't have to worry about social situations because I would avoid them because I was overweight. I blamed everything on my weight.

Man!!  I suck at blogging here.  I wish I could be like my good friend from the Hawaii board that posts often and always has pictures!!  I am now almost 6 months out and I am down 80 pounds.  I am feeling really good these days and I am getting really excited about moving home.  I had a fill yesterday and I think I am at a good spot.  I am able to eat just enough but not too much.  Yesterday was pretty miserable because I was on liquids but today is a little better since i can eat mushies.  I am not very good at taking pictures to keep track of the weight loss either.  Maybe Sunday when we get dressed up for our Christmas party at church I will take some pictures.  Anyway I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season.  I am looking forward to Christmas this year.  I am excited to face the holidays with my tool to help me get through it.  I know I am going to allow myself to eat some of the goodies that I am used to for the holidays but I am glad it is all going to be in moderation.  I guess I will post this now.  God Bless!!

Two Months out
on September 5, 2008 1:22 pm
I am just now starting to blog.  I actuall have a weight loss blog at gigi2897.livejournal.com if anyone wants to see my posts from before now.  I am now about 2 onths and a couple of weeks out.  I have lost approximately 55 pounds.  I am feeling pretty good about that but in the last 2 weeks I haven't really lost anything.  I have been very discouraged and almost wishin I had the rny instead.  I know this was a better choice for me but I really wanted faster results.  I am really happy with the weight I have lost though.  I am exercising alot but this week has been a bad week for exercise for me.  I am not sleeping very good at night so I haven't felt like exercising during the day.  I am hoping I will be able to get back on track there.  Anyway I guess that is all for now.

My Story

Aloha!!  I am a 31 year old living in Hawaii.  I met my husband and after we married we moved here.  We will be moving back to Texas next year.  I have 3 kitties Tinkerbell, Lily, and Lil'Bit.  They are the best little kitties.  They keep me company while I am at home diring the day.  I am currently not able to work because I have a back injury.  When I do work I am a preschool teacher and I love what I do.  My back injury was the deciding factor in having weight loss surgery.  I have been overweight my entire life. I don't ever remember a time when I wasn't bigger than everyone else around me.  I grew up in the south where food is fried and fattening!  I truly enjoyed food and ate all the time.  I weighed 320 pounds or so by high school.  I have tried multiple diets over the years and I would lose a little weight and then I would gain it all back for one reason or another.  In January of 2007 I injured my back and had to have back surgery in April of that year.  After the surgery I took a few more months off for recovery and then I went back to work.  In February of 2008 I aggravated the old injury and had to quit working again.  I went to the doctor and he told me that if I don't lose weight I will haave to have back surgery again and that is something I don't ever want to do again.  I had often thought of having weight loss surgery but I had a friend that had the rny and she looked awful even 4 years out.  Her hair was falling out and her skin was pasty so I was too afraid to have the surgery.  Then I had another friend have the rny and she is looking great and healthy.  So I decided that I would go for it.  I went to the seminar in March and then went home to Texas to visit my mom.  While there my mom and I talked about the surgeries and decided that the Lap-Band would be the right surgery for me.  I don't have children yet and even though you can safely have a baby after rny I felt Lap-Band would be a better choice.  I came back to Hawaii and went to the consult and did all of the tests and was on my way.  I received a phone call on June 18th asking if I could be ready for surgery on the 25th.  I was totally ready so I did my clear liquid diet for three days before, went in and had the surgery and here I am.  I am down approximately 55 pounds and feeling great.  I started this process at 348. I was at 335 day of surgery and I am now at 294 or so.
