Well I just received my schedule with all my dates.  I have my pre op 8/22/08 and then I have an IVC filter put in on  8/26/08.  My Surgery follows on 9/2/08.  I am both exited and anxious (which i know is normal).
I have already read my manual that my Dr's. office gave me front to back but feel like I have forgotten everything I've read.  I will have to re-read it one section at a time so I can absorb everything. WOW I am about to embark on this journey that is going to change the rest of my life!  Is it real?

My Consultation Appointment
on June 18, 2008 2:06 pm

June 18, 2008
I went to my consultation appointment very tired from the previous night’s loss of sleep from the anticipation. I signed in and had to fill out two papers one was a release of info and the other one was a quiz on the seminar that I attended which I passed. I went to go do by weight and Height which was a bummer because I found out I gained 24 lbs instead of 15 since I quit smoking in April.

I was then taken into a room where I was given a 1 inch manual titled “U.S Bariatric Patient Education and was told that the PA would be in shortly.  I flipped thorough the manual and notice that most of my questions that I wanted to asked were addressed in there.  It covered surgical procedure, pre-op procedures. Hospital stay and post op procedures, possible complications, concerns and ingredients for long term success.  It is really good. I only had to ask three questions.

After the PA went over by questions she said that I only had to have a Psych and a nutritional evaluation along with a procedure to put some kind of filter in my groin area to help prevent blood clots. (This was I had a history of 2 blood colts with a previous

condition).

The PA next took me in to the insurance person.  She made an appointment with the Nutritionist for July 8, 2008 and told me that she needed to get a prior auth for the Psych and that my Surgery will be schedule for August.  I can’t believe that’s all my insurance

is requiring.  I am glad though because I have notice with the extra weight gain the pressure it’s putting on my body.

Well for now I guess I just wait for my two appointments and my surgery date.

My Journey Begins
on June 18, 2008 1:50 pm

My final decision to have WLS was made when I became aware that I could be cured of my Diabetes.  Before that I felt that I should be able to lose the weight my self.

My Journey began when I attended a seminar by Dr. Coates in Modesto, CA where I live. I listen to the seminar and filled out all my papers to have the RNY procedure.  I was told that I would receive a call for an consult appt.

My Story

I started my weight problem in my mid twenties and have been gaining ever since, especially when I was diagnosed with both breast cancer and diabetes eight years ago. (I am currently Cancer free) I had gained about 50 pounds during my chemo treatment and with all the medication for the diabetes and depression that I have I couldn’t lose the weight I just kept putting it on. As a result my health started going down hill and being at my highest weight ever, I became so tired of it and have decided to make a big change in my life. I want to lose this weight once and for all and get rid of the diabetes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
