Surgeon Testimonial

Nissim Geron
At first I was sceptical as I was really hoping to have my surgery (revision) in Jerusalem but after the original surgeon cancelled my op, I was back on the search.rnWhen I returned, Dr. Geron was direct and honest about the risks in this being my 3rd WLS yet comforting at the same time.rnThe office staff is nice . My only problem was that I needed the secretary (and the surgeon was on vacation) and she was out due to a family death. But when Dr. Geron returned, I met with him in his office -and not his clinic.rnPeople in Israel needing a revision should know about him and his hospital. Not everyone should have to go only to a hospital in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem to get quality care. It also exists in the northern part of the country.rnI have my 2nd appointment after surgery coming up. As my incisioned opened to a seroma, I am seeing him one week after release from hospital and then two weeks later.rnWhen in hospital, the dietician sat with me for more than half an hour privately while I was hospitalized explaining and answering my questions.rnThe surgical ward is smaller than some other hospitals I had visited. This contributed to a \"family\" atmosphere between patients and nurses and even the doctors. If a patient happened to be out of the room during Rounds, a doctor would find them and motion for them to return to their room. Nothing was done in rebuke.

Food and I are Learning to get Along
on February 25, 2008 11:27 am
I can eat cottage cheese and I found this yummy 5% smoked yellow cheese.Yogurts do well, too. Pureed soups and of course liquids.
However for the past four days, queasiness has invaded my life as well as my poor food choices (green peas mixed in with my mashed potatoes, or thin slices of deli meat) causing me to upchuck shortly after.
I have an appointment with the surgeon next Monday. I am concerned if I have a stricture as before the op I had a prblem with my esophagus and narrowing due to the VBG.

Had My 1st Visit to Surgeon
on February 18, 2008 12:28 pm
I got a friend to drive me as I was a bit freaked about travelling on two buse and my "open" incision. We actually had an enjoyable time chattingh on the way there and when I was in at the doc's she read her Tehillim (Psalms).
The doc was not impressed with my "wound" as to him it is within norms but he ub=nderstood my fears. It is still open and will take time to heal shut. At least now I can get it wer-yeah, I can shower and then put a dry gauze on it. I did that tonight it and it is "leaky".
I have another appointment in two weeks.
I now weigh 99K on his office scale and when I first met with him mid-September, I weighed 106K. But he is very laid back about everything. Maybe because this is my 3rd op and "revisions" sometimes lose slower.
I actually started eating on Shabbat-/Saturday - a few days earlier than what the dietician said. I had small amounts of cottage cheese. I really wanted Bamba(an Israeli PB and corn flavored snack but held myself back.
And there was my fiasco on Saturday night whioch I thought I wouldn't even mention to the doc but it slipped out.
I want to start EXERCISE but as walking is the advised mode, I ain't going to do it in the rain and jeapordize the health of my ankle.
Everything in the right time.

I Am Home From The Hospital
on February 13, 2008 9:23 am
I was admitted to the hospital on the 1st and stayed as I don't drive and don't have money to pay for so many trips.
My daughter showed up Saturday evening to be with me and stayed until that Wed.
My op was 3rd of February. I got home on the 12th. The ride exhausted me. 2 friends carried all my belongings for me. and I went to sit at my computer.
The op went well although the adhesions were very difficult. The surgeon was able to RNY me and 80cm. I had 2 drainage tubes. And as my veins are very unco-operative, during my op a central vein in my neck was used. It lasted until Wed morn before it got clogged and needed to be removed and a new vein found. What an ordeal!
The day before my release 1 drain was removed and the next day the other and it was a bit pussy. Also all 36 staples were removed as well.
Back to my "homecoming"....
Shortly after I was home I wanted to change the gauze where the pussy drain had been. My hand brushed against the fresh scar awhere my "not belly-button" is and it opened and bled. Needless to say, I freaked out calling my HMO asking for a home visit but that was a no-go. I had to call a taxi and go to to the other clinic before they closed. The doc on call did his job but was not very sympathetic to my situation of fear or that I live alone. He said it was "non-sense" and sent me to the nurse for dressings. The next morning I went to my GP and he and his nurse properly examined me against further damage. the places where the drains were need to be changed daily but the scar-opening should not get wet and I should leave its bandage alone for a week.
My 1st appointment with my surgeon is next Monday.
I weighed 101K at admission and yesterday at my GP I weighed 98.
