Surgeon Testimonial

Nissim Geron
At first I was sceptical as I was really hoping to have my surgery (revision) in Jerusalem but after the original surgeon cancelled my op, I was back on the search.
When I returned, Dr. Geron was direct and honest about the risks in this being my 3rd WLS yet comforting at the same time.
The office staff is nice . My only problem was that I needed the secretary (and the surgeon was on vacation) and she was out due to a family death. But when Dr. Geron returned, I met with him in his office -and not his clinic.
People in Israel needing a revision should know about him and his hospital. Not everyone should have to go only to a hospital in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem to get quality care. It also exists in the northern part of the country.
I have my 2nd appointment after surgery coming up. As my incisioned opened to a seroma, I am seeing him one week after release from hospital and then two weeks later.
When in hospital, the dietician sat with me for more than half an hour privately while I was hospitalized explaining and answering my questions.
The surgical ward is smaller than some other hospitals I had visited. This contributed to a "family" atmosphere between patients and nurses and even the doctors. If a patient happened to be out of the room during Rounds, a doctor would find them and motion for them to return to their room. Nothing was done in rebuke.

I'm Tired of the Waiting Game
on December 26, 2007 12:02 pm
As I read others posts (on this site as well as the Hebrew one) and see many people already having their op. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever have my revision, and with it a releif from the GERD.
Next week are my 2 appointments so I hope I won't be too depressed before I'm even given a chance for a "pain-free" life.
Tomorrow I have a dental appointment as two different molar teeth have been bothering me - one on the bottom left and one on the top right. I hope the financial aspect of seeing the dentist won't cause me a heart attack -LOL.

And the Oddyesy Continues....
on December 19, 2007 10:52 am
Well, my oddysey continues. Today I was in Tel Aviv. The doc was nice and agreed to do the op but I have no idea when as I have to wait for a phone call from the Medical Secretary which could take a month and she would tell me when to come for an appointment to see the anestheolgist with all my medical papers of tests and procedures and then I would get called for a date for surgery. However that could be 2 weeks after the 1st call before I see the anestheologist and 2 months before a call about when surgery.
This hospital and docs in TA are very skilled and "popualar" and as such there is a long waiting list and they also deal with cancer patients and emergency cases of G-D Forbid bombing and explosions.
I'm glad I'm keeping my other appointments - one in a different hospital in TA the 1st of January and another in Tiberias.
If I have to I will go thru the list of the other 10 docs until I find one skilled enough to take me on.
I have not and will not give up on me!

The Search for a Surgeon Continues:
on December 14, 2007 5:09 am

Next week I have another appointment at a hospital in Tel Aviv and in January I have 2 appointments with 2 different surgeons.I'll just keep going down the list until I find a surgeon willing to take my case. There are still 6 more I can see until I'll seriously have to consider travellimg to the U.S.
I know there are very real risks involved with any abdominal surgery on me due to all the previous ops. But what am I supposed to do with the way the severe GERD is affecting my sleep.
Do the risks of surgery outweigh its benefits?

Doc # 4 and Counting...
on December 3, 2007 12:37 pm
It is amazing to me that I can go to 3 different docs around the country who all reccomend Open RNY GB and then cannot perform it due to previous ops.
Today I travelled to Jerusalem to see yet another doc - #4. He listened to me, took notes and examined my abdomen - he didn't feel any hernias; strange as every other doc has! He also does not feel competent as he never did VBG and cannot undo what he never learned. Such honesty is commendable but I would rather the privilege of competency. I respect the doc for his honesty yet I am still trapped in Gerd and intermitent pains on my left upper abdomen. He suggested I have "Gus" (esophagus_ dilated. Gee, why didn't the Gastro think of that in Sep. when he scoped me? I'll trty to contact the man tomorrow as well as try to talk with a doc in hospital in Tel Aviv.
I feel like I just want the darn twisted ring out and let me be FAT.

Starting Over Again
on November 30, 2007 4:54 am
About 3 weeks ago my surgeon wrote me an email in response to mine stating that due to a case similar to mine and its difficulty and complications he has decided that he does not feel comfortable, capable, competent to do my op at this time.
I immediately contacted him; begged him to speak with a doc in another hospital in Jerusalem. He did. And then I spoke with the other doc. He was hesitant and cautious if he would be able to handle my case. He was not even sure if anyone in the country could.
Later that night I wrote to him on his forum asking "what if any, are the risks to me and my body if I do nothing?" He responded that I may come to his clinic but to bring all medical papers and discs/documents and we would see if there is anything that can be done to help me.
I have an appointment this coming Monday the 3rd of December.
My next post will hopefully be giving an update.
