Surgeon Testimonial

Nissim Geron
At first I was sceptical as I was really hoping to have my surgery (revision) in Jerusalem but after the original surgeon cancelled my op, I was back on the search.
When I returned, Dr. Geron was direct and honest about the risks in this being my 3rd WLS yet comforting at the same time.
The office staff is nice . My only problem was that I needed the secretary (and the surgeon was on vacation) and she was out due to a family death. But when Dr. Geron returned, I met with him in his office -and not his clinic.
People in Israel needing a revision should know about him and his hospital. Not everyone should have to go only to a hospital in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem to get quality care. It also exists in the northern part of the country.
I have my 2nd appointment after surgery coming up. As my incisioned opened to a seroma, I am seeing him one week after release from hospital and then two weeks later.
When in hospital, the dietician sat with me for more than half an hour privately while I was hospitalized explaining and answering my questions.
The surgical ward is smaller than some other hospitals I had visited. This contributed to a "family" atmosphere between patients and nurses and even the doctors. If a patient happened to be out of the room during Rounds, a doctor would find them and motion for them to return to their room. Nothing was done in rebuke.

Weight is Slow....
on May 28, 2008 12:35 pm
Today I saw the orthopedist for a half year check-up on my Ankle Fusion from August 2006. I have also been having pain in the knee of the operated ankle and in the hip of the opposite leg. I thought it was referred pain or compensating for the fusion. X-rays were taken. Osteoarthritis of the knee or a torn meniscus and bursitis of the hip. Recommendations: PT and a bone scan. And to lose 40 kilo. What planet did he fall of of? If I weighed 40 kilo less I would be anorexic!
I weighed myself on the digital scale at the clinics. 87.5 ---
Not much of a weight-loss but something. And my clothes look great on me. Compliments sure don't hurt either.
Exercise is still like a curse word to me but I'm working on changing that concept.

My 1st mini-goal
on May 9, 2008 7:49 am
Today I went up to town for a friend's grandson's bris and celebratory meal which consisted of rolls, salads, potato,  rice, green beans, and chicken. I ate from the cooked carbs as the chicken did not get put on the tanle until a good half hour after the other foods. Everything stayed in as I ate slowly and in very small amounts. I did not indulge in any cake or ice cream that was available.
I also stopped into my HMO to arranmge paperwork for some other medical issues - my ankle fusion follow-up and my monthly allergy shots.
I also looked to see of my blood test results were in - most were. My cholesterol was 168 and my HbA1c is now 4.3 after more than a year that it was at the high end of the range at 5.8.
Of course wheile I was there I had to weigh myself. I am now 88 K - a half a kilo loss since earlier this week when I saw the surgeon whose scale consistently is two kilo more than here.
And I am going to change my ticker to reflect the more "comforting" weight.

Three Month Update:
on May 5, 2008 10:07 am

This morning I did blood tests and then went to see the surgeon. On his scale I weighed 90.5 kilo. He was happier than I was. I would have been happier if it was just 90 but the main point is the numbers are going LEFT so I have nothing to complain about at all. No reflux and although I am taking Ompradex in case of a marginal ulcer, I lay flat on my bed without the head raised and no food coming up in my sleep. Yahoo!
My daughter is planning her wedding for December. It will be interesting and exhilirating to see how much I lose by her special day. I won't even worry about what to wear until after Succot.
