Surgeon Testimonial

Jamal Farhan, M.D.
Dr. Farhan and his nurse P.A. Nancy were both excellent. I didn't meet either until I was out of surgery. Dr. Farhan did a nice job. I don't have any complications at this point, and my incisions look really healthy.

Tuesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~ JudyAnne

New Year's Eve
on December 31, 2007 8:43 pm
Today, I added saltines and egg salad to my diet.  The crackers were good.  The egg salad - not so much.  I should have let DH make it.  (I'll have him make some tomorrow.)  Walked on the treadmill twice today - about 15 minutes each time.  Speed was 2.5-3.0.

Didn't do any protein today.  DH bought more 50 gram slams, so I'll make sure to have one tomorrow.

On the Horizon
on December 29, 2007 6:12 pm
I finally got my new treadmill (Horizon T700) set up.

DH had so much trouble getting it set up.  First, the console was cracked.  He took that back to Saginaw.  The next morning, he started working on it again.  After he got it completely put together, he went to center the tread and found that it was cut.      After another trip to Saginaw, he got it all put together.

I could only do 10 minutes at 2mph before feeling a little pain in the tummy.  I'll have to work up to 30 minutes.

Follow-up Appointments
on December 28, 2007 1:30 pm
12/27/07:  Went to HBC and got my staples out.  Weighed in at 302.  (I was secretly hoping to be under 300.)  Devora gave me my next meal plan.  Unfortunately, I have to wait a few more days before adding some 'good' food.  For now, though, I get to eat lentil or black bean soup.  (Had some today.  Yum!)  Devora also suggested that I start the 50 gram slam protein, because I was seriously lacking!

12/28/07:  Went to my family doctor and got my labwork done.  Weighed 298 on their scale.  I was feeling a bit dizzy, so I sipped my hydration drink.  Then I went shopping... did too much shopping... and felt like a dork asking for help with loading my groceries into the car.  Then went to BB&B for a magic bullet and found it was cheaper at the store I just came from.  I was so tired that I called my DH and asked him to pick it up for me.  He wasn't planning on shopping (only taking the kids sledding).  He's so good to me

Now, I'm at home in an empty house - completely tired out.  I've got to get some more protein in and then I'm taking a nap!

8 days post-op (and ready to move on)
on December 26, 2007 7:04 am

My incisions look great.  I've been moving around a lot.  And I have been trying to follow the food plan as closely as possible, but it has been difficult to get in the protein.

I go tomorrow for staple removal and then labwork on Friday.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping that HBC tells me to move on to pureed foods.

3 days post-op
on December 21, 2007 6:02 pm
The surgery went much better than I expected... I got to go ahead with laproscopic, and I had only mild discomfort and nausea.  I did not use the morphine - except just before the first 2 times I got up to walk.

Surgery was on Tuesday, and I was discharge at noon on Thursday.  The ride home wasn't too bad.  The nurse suggested I take a liquid pain medication since my trip was 1 1/2 hours.

I was so relieved to be at home!  The hard part is that you have to try managing your food, liquids and rest all by yourself.  I've been getting in some protein powder (mixed with activia vanilla yogurt), and I've been getting in some fluid (but not a full 48-64 ounces, yet).  I'm mostly scared of throwing up, so I'm taking things very slowly!

As for vitamins and calcium, I started on Centrum Chewables.  I only need 2 a day.  They taste OK, but not wonderful.  I've also started taking the Viactiv Calcium chews.  Those are yummy, and I think of them as a litte dessert!

I think tomorrow, I'm going to try some strained soup.  And I think I'll order some unflavored unjury to add to things like broth/soup.  I've got the sampler packet from enjoyhealth.com, but I don't think I'll like too many of the flavors.  The cookies and cream was the best so far - and it was really good mixed in the yogurt.

Once bad experience today... I was probably doing to much or drinking too much/too fast.  I was sitting at the computer when all of a sudden I felt a rush of fluid into my mouth (saliva?), and I started to feel faint.  I rushed to the bathroom, and spit out some of the fluid/foam.  After about 10 minutes, I was feeling fine.

There's going to be lots of trial and error over the next year!!!
