Surgeon Testimonial

Daniel Stickler, M.D.
How wonderful it would be if all doctors treated their patients like Dr. Stickler treats his. He takes the necessary time to make each patient feels at ease, he makes sure the WLS process is understood and that the patient is aware of all the risks, not just the rewards. His staff reflects his work ethic and professionalism. Everyone there treats their obese clients like equals, not like a sub-species like some people do. Dr. Stickler puts you at ease immediately by talking directly to you, not down to you. He obviously cares about the health of his patients and wants each of them to succeed as they restore their health by having the weight loss surgery. I recommend him highly to anyone that needs the surgery. He is the best and has the best staff of any doctor in the Kanawha Valley. rnFOLLOW-UP: down 13 lbs post-op. Had staples removed on 7/2. Everything healing well. Dr. Stickler's staff is excellent. I feel like I've known Kelli all my life - she seems to be as emotionally connected to my healing as my daughter's are - can't fake that. This was definately the right surgeon for me.

Tuesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~ Judy

AT A STANDSTILL
on October 27, 2008 3:33 pm
Have been stuck at the same weight since early August. My weight varies by only one or two pounds. I've tried increasing my physical activity; increasing the amount of protein I have each day; make sure I'm getting enough water; and making sure I keep my calories below 800.
Anyone have a suggestion??????

My Story

I first attempted to get approval for the WLS in January 2005, but was turned down by my insurance company.  They did not feel I had enough documentation of medically supervised weight loss attempts.  I was 59 years old at the time and  had dieted most of my adult life, without much success.
I was devasted by their refusal. I had been researching the surgery for a couple of years and knew I met all the requirements and had several co-morbidities. I had accepted the fact that WLS was my last attempt to lose weight and when the insurance refused to cover the surgery, I felt like I had no options left, except to just wait to die.
It took about 6 months for me to recover emotionally and start on a doctor supervised weight loss program. However, in September of that year, my 16 year old granddaughter was hit by a car as she was crossing a street in our town.  She died a few hours later and since that time I have spent my time learning how to cope with a life that does not include her. Grief, sadness, depression, loneliness, anger, hurt - all the emotions one feels when someone they love dies.
In January of 2007, I came out of my grief enough to realize that I needed to start paying attention to my food each day and attempt to become healthier.  I have 2 daughters, both married, and 2 other grandchildren that needed a strong, healthy grandma. I started a weight loss diet, approved by my physician, and took all my paperwork and diet documentation to Dr. Stickler's office on 6/4/07. I received my approval on 6/11/07!!!!!!!!!
My surgery is scheduled for 6/26/07 at Women & Children's Hospital in Charleston, WV.
I am eager to meet all the challenges and look forward to losing weight, regaining my health and spending as much time as I can with my grandchildren.
I plan to retire from work at the end of this year and I look forward to being healthier.
