Goal #1 Fail? I think not.
on September 3, 2010 3:48 pm

Man. I was getting dressed this morning and noticed that my arms looked a lot better than they did a couple of weeks ago. I got on the scale, since it was Friday, and saw I was down 4 pounds from last week. Then things started getting kind of exciting. I dug through the closet and found some clothes I have not been able to wear for a while and tried them on. One shirt still did not fit, but this time it was because my biceps were too large, a condition I call a good problem. The second one was the dark blue shirt in the pictures I posted today. It's wonderful how progress breeds motivation, which breeds progress, and so on...

The gym has really been awesome for me. There is a group of regular guys who show up and generally taunt the hell out of each other. If you want to work out with them you don't necessarily have to lift huge amounts of weight (although it is a plus) but you do have to have heart. I've been 'hitting the iron' hard and making sure to eat plenty of protien when I get home. The protien also sticks with you longer so you don't suffer the hunger pangs like with simple carbs and sugary foods.

I'll end with

So far, so good!
Brandon

Goal #1: FAIL.
on August 29, 2010 9:51 am
All right...so my goal to get down to 250 pounds by September 1st looks like it will be a bust. I'm not concerned, though, because I've incorporated a heavy dose of weight-lifting into my daily exercise regimine and my waist size is dropping steadily. Also, my chest and shoulders, particularly the deltoids, are getting thicker. In short, the fat is still burning off and I am developing muscle mass. It doesn't matter if I weigh 300 pounds as long as I have a decent body-fat percentage!
I feel better than I did 2 months ago and I am down 30 pounds since June 15th. A friend also send me some pics of myself from a year ago when I was 315 pounds. Since it's now down to 260 (-55 LBS) I feel even more motivated.

My Story

Hello there and thanks for taking an interest!
I am one of the few people on obesityhelp.com that has never had and does not intend to have weight loss surgery of any kind. I did have an ileoectomy in late 2006 which wasn't much fun, but that's a story for another day.
I joined this website and forum group for two main reasons:
The first is I do want to lose the excess weight I carry and have carried and I find this site motivating. It would be nice to see what it's like to be 'fat-free' for once in my life. Even after Basic Training in the Army I still could have lost another 15-20 pounds of fat. This website has all kinds of resources such as the Health Tracker and other people striving for the same goal I am. Also, and this may be a bit controversial, I am terribly afraid of having surgery ever again. When I read of the trials and tribulations of the people who have undergone the various weight loss surgeries it scares me into being more in tune with my situation. I'm sorry if that sounds terrible, but for me it works.
The second reason I'm on here is to look into what kind of emotional support, or problem-solving skills people who have weight loss surgery or struggle with their weight in general get. It's my opinion that we very often address the symptoms of obesity and ignore the causes. In short, I'm trying to learn more about the whole thing.
