Back on the Band Wagon
on May 29, 2010 7:05 pm
Well - I fell off the wagon...  I was doing great 30 pounds lost!!  I was having my regular fills and doing great.  And then... my husband and I went on our second honeymoon!!  IT was wonderful.  4 nights with unlimited food and alcoholic beverages was not a good thing for me - it was wonderful - but not good for the weight loss.  So, when we got back, I stayed on the Dominican Diet!  I went back to the dr. 3 months later and found I had gained 8 pounds!!  It just goes to show you that if you don't follow the plan - you will gain.  So, now I'm back to better eating - got my band filled and trying to stay the course.

Slowly but Surely
on September 16, 2009 7:10 pm
Sometimes I get down because I'm losing so slowly.  I know this is how the realize band works.  And I knew it would be slow.  I also feel that slow weight loss is the best way.  I've lost 21 pounds in 2 months.  Pretty darn good.  I'm just ready for the last 100 to come off.

Still doing well.
on July 30, 2009 9:28 pm
I am in week 3.  I'm still eating mushy foods but have tolerated everything I've tried.  I've lost 13 pounds.  I'm looking forward to my first fill because now that the swelling has gone down, I don't feel much restriction anymore.  I felt a lot right after surgery but not anymore.

My Story

I have been a "big girl" my whole life.  I remember wanting to model when I was young and my mom taking me to a modeling agency for children.  They told me I was too big to model - I don't remember how old I was, but I do remember that I weighed 80 pounds.  In high school I was average size - wore a size 12 but I thought I was HUGE because all my friends were size 2's.  I think I was a size 14 when I graduated high school.  Most of my family is large so I knew at a young age that I would battle weight my entire life.  And boy have I battled.  I've done weight watchers too many times to count, liquid diets, doctor supervised diets, seen dieticians, joined a million gyms, exercised until I puked, done the no carb thing, ate grapefruits.  I feel like I've done it all - and failed miserably.  Don't get me wrong, I can lose the weight - I just can't keep it off.  So, about 3 months ago I decided to look into surgery.  After much research I decided to go with the Realize Band.  My insurance will cover the surgery after I spend 6 months on a doctor supervised diet, weigh in each month, do a sleep study, and have a psychological evaluation.  I've done the sleep study (yes, i have sleep apnea).  I've done 3 months of my 6 month diet.  So, I'm well on my way!!  If all goes according to plan, I should have my surgery in July!  I am excited and ready for a new life.
