Michael W. Blaney, M.D. I first met Dr. Blaney at St. Joseph Hospital back in 2004 as an employee. I knew that this surgeon had the skills necessary to do wonderful things. Dr. Blaney does his best to make sure you truly understand the process and what you are about to undertake. Gastric by-pass isn't a quick fix, it's truly a lifestyle change. I am grateful for Dr. Blaney and know that he will continue to make a difference in so many lives that he encounters.
My story...wow this is something! I grew up thin, until I finally returned to the South when I was 10 yrs old in 1990. At this point I discovered that I really loved "Soul Food" and the weight was piled on. I hated the terms of "chubby" and "husky," but that is what people call you until you reach 15 or 16, then you become "FAT." I was never able to get most of the weight off and keep it off, but I did try. I went through high school as the funny "fat" friend, but never knew what it was like to wear fashionable clothing and be considered "cool." I researched the gastric by-pass in 2001, but got cold feet. After a few more years of waiting, I found Dr. Blaney and make the leap of faith to have gastric by-pass in January 2006. This was the best decision in my life to day other than graduating from college Summa Cum Laude (with honors).
To date I have lost over 100 lbs and the following statistics...
Neck: 18" to 14 3/4, waist: 48" to 33 1/2, chest: 50" to 39"...so I am truly a new person inside and out! :-)
