Wednesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench! ~JudyAnne~

UPDATE
on June 6, 2009 6:57 pm
Started personal trainer this week, for a couple weeks. I joined a new (better) gym. I am going 5 days a week now, Monday thru Friday, w/ 2 days strength training, 3 days cardio. I feel it's what I need at this point in my life. I am too close to give up on myself now. I seem to be able to jump start a plateau or stall in my weight loss when I come up w/ new & inventive ways to keep my body continually working harder to achieve my goals. I am losing again more consistently. Life is good.

I have updated pics.

Hope all is well.

UPDATE
on April 27, 2009 6:17 am

Weight loss is slowing down to a snai's pace. Having difficulty accepting this.
Need to figure out how to be ok with this, that's what I am struggling with.
I know I can't continue to lose 4-5 lbs per week that I did @ the beginning of my
journey. However this 1-2 lbs a month crap is for the birds. I have appt w/plastic
surgeon for a body scan analysis (???) to detertmine how much skin needs to be
removed. I believe that hearing from a medical professional that I have 20 lbs or more
of excess skin to be removed will help me deal with my weight loss slow down and
help me to be ok with where I am at. I am not afraid of hard work, I have been on this
journey for about 21 months now. I do not feel that I am "done" with my weight loss.
I know I am getting closer to where I want to be, but I think it's a real possiblity that
my body is getting "comfortable" where I am at right now: 198. This is too close to
200 lbs for me to be "comfortable" at this weight (198.) I will be joining a new gym soon
and looking into getting a personal trainer to help me achieve my goals. If I have 20 lbs
of excess skin that will be removed down the line, then that brings me to 178, which is
only 23 lbs away from my goal of 155. I don't want this last 23 lbs to take another year
to come off. I don't even want it to take 6 months. I am willing to work hard to get more
weight off. I just need to figure out what I need to do to make that happen & hopefully
with the assitance of a personal trainer I will get more of the results I am looking for.

I hope everyone is doing well. I would love to hear updates !!!!

Take care,
Doirinne :-)

UPDATE HERNIA SURGERY
on October 18, 2008 5:49 am
Just an update here to let everyone know I am recouperating very well from my hernia repair surgery I had on Wed 10/8. First couple days difficult due mostly to WICKED gas pains, worse than when I had lap band surgery in Feb 08. Hospital would NOT give me anything like GAS X, so on my way home next day, I got some GAS X and within about 2 hrs, what a relief !!!!! Like heaven. It took the gas pains mostly away, and completely gone by Saturday 10/11. Thank you God for that relief !!!!!

Besides some minor discomfort if I twist or turn @ my abdomen, I am feeling pretty good. Still can't do alot around the house, still on pushing/pulling/workout restriction at least until I see my surgeon for follow up next Tues 10/21. I have help @ home from my daughter, so it's not been too bad. I returned to work on Wed 10/15, so thankfully surgeon agreed to let me go back just 1 week after surgery. I could have used more time to rest/recoup, but I have been very careful and not doing too much. Just walking about 20 mins per day or so. I can't walk super fast (power walk) because I tried and the tummy starts to hurt, so it's just a normal/regular walk, no big time stuff until I get clearance.  Imagine me, compliant????? Who woulda thunkit????

I am now in the 220's, which I have not been since being a senior in high school (20 yrs ago). I weighed myself this morning, as I do every Saturday morning, and I am now 228 lbs. WOO HOO  !!!!!! Slower weight loss past few weeks due to hernia DX, but I am taking it in stride, doing what I have to do, so I can get back to my power walking/GYM exercise routine as soon as I am cleared by surgeon to do so. Being extra careful with my calories intake & my protein & water intake as well. I am taking all my vitamins/supplements and making the best out of this extremely frustrating situation.

I am nowhere NEAR being done with this journey. I have 70 ish pounds to go, so I have to say now: AIN'T NO STOPPING ME NOW !!!!! I WILL BE ON THE MOVE IN NO TIME, SO WATCH OUT WORLD, I AM COMING BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even after I reach my goal, I know that this will remain as my journey, as it will forever be a struggle for me to keep the weight off. But I am down with COMMITMENT, SO BRING IT ON !!!!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well, so please let me know how you are all doing !!!!!

Love,
Doirinne (aka healthygirl2b)

My Story

I am 37, from Albany, NY. In process of pre surgery testing. Have a couple more appts to finish up with, psych eval clearance, sleep study results, and 2 required info seminars & 2 support group meetings. Should be able to fit it all in by end of September. Albany Medical Center, my surgical hospital of choice, requires 10% weight loss prior to surgery. I need to lose 36 pounds before I can be referred to surgeon for surgery date. I have lost since May 15, about 21 lbs, so I am more than 1/2 way to my 10% weight loss goal.  I never really considered surgical intervention until I was diagnosed this year with hypertension, high cholesterol, and pre-diabetes. There is family history of all this plus heart disease on BOTH sides of my family.  It has scared me into reality.  I need to do something about this NOW, not tomorrow or next week or next month, but NOW !!!!  So I wait for my last couple appts and work my butt off eating right, drinking a gallon of water per day, and walking at least 4 days per week, briskly for 30 mins.  I am doing all the right things according to my doctors that are overseeing my pre surgical testing, so I have to be patient and not expect this miracle over night.  Appointments take time, planning for surgery takes time, getting approval for surgery from my health insurance; it all takes time. I have been cleared by the cardiologist, no heart disease or blockage THANK GOD !!!!!  Cleared by Pulmonary
Specialist, just waiting on psych clearance, & sleep study, then I should be on my way to meet with surgeon to plan out my surgery date. My surgeon feels the RNY lap procedure would be best for me because of my pre-diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and joint pain (mostly knees).  I am anxious to hear about others about their journey through pre & post surgery.  Especially if there are any Albany, NY LOCALS would be awesome if you've gone through the Albany Med Program we could chat about the way they prepare patients before surgery and how they care for patients post surgery.  Thanks, HEALTHYGIRL2B
