Surgeon Testimonial

Marina Kurian
She is AMAZING! I've known her since 2001 when she was at Lenox Hill where I had my RNY with a different surgeon. When I came to an info session in 2010, seeking a revision, the first thing she said to me, was "I remember you" and then when I told her how much I gained back she replied "you are still beautiful". Worried about what I was to do, DS, RNY-RNY or a BOB, she guided me thru the process to the BOB. She knew my weaknesses (wine) and my strengths (exercise) and gave me the information and knowledge to make a educated decision. I went with the BOB. When my Mom, who was totally supportive with the RNY in 2002, objected, Dr. K spoke to her on the phone, answering all her questions. The night before my surgery, I spoke with her on the phone and she reassured me of my decision. Today, I am 4 mos out, have restriction back and down over 40lbs, and I am 16lbs to goal. Dr. Kurian has been as advertised as I knew she would be.

September 2004

9-15-04 I am addicted to exercise. I workout 3-4 days a week for 1.5 hrs. I HATE going to the gym and I hate the 1st 25 minutes there, but, somewhere around minute 30, the endorphins kick in and I get a tremendous high. I could work out for hrs. I find myself still on that elliptical machine at 1+ hr plus. I have been trying to work out cardio for 1hr and then do 30 minutes of circuit training. My theory is all the weight lifting in the world wouldn't help my arms and thighs, but, I am appeasing the trainer at the gym and giving the weights 6 mos, if nothing looks better in 6 mos, under the knife I go and a Home Equity Loan here I come. I will need to find a new PS though, Dr Abramson has said flat out he doesn't like to do thighs lifts. But, he does a hell of a breast and arm lift. So, time will tell. My arms look like shit, my thighs are like jello, and we wouldn't even talk about my breasts. But, my ASS, MY ASS IS AMAZING! It is now my best feature! Thank God for people like JLo who have made the Ass a desired trait. Mine looks great coupled with my ultra flat tummy and tiny waist. I look good and for the first time in 33yrs, I can say I LOVE MY BODY!

9-20-04 (175) Saw Dr
Leitman last Friday, I am Anemic. I don't take my vitamins consistent ally. He said I was a huge success, surpassed his goals, but, unless I get vigilant about my supplements, I will be in BAD shape. He is like, "put them by your toothbrush, you brush your teeth don't you"? I am to see him again in 3 mos and have more blood work taken. I asked him about getting shots, he said they hurt like hell. Just take the Slow FE twice a day (I think that's what it is called). On a positive note, my Cholesterol is down to 155, was 165 6 mos ago and was over 200 prior to surgery! My calcium is good and so is my B12 (which is pure luck since I don't take any supplements). He thinks I look great, post-tummy tuck. Last time I saw him it was the Friday before the PS. I also looked at the Abdominal Cat scan films from my car accident in June. My pouch is still very tiny, esp. when I saw it next to my Big Ole Spleen. But, I am convinced that my opening is very large b/c I get hungry very quickly and I can eat large volumes. He doesn't want me participating in the Barr Study. He said I am a success, I am like everyone else and I am on a "level playing field". Activity and exercise is the key to success and support (i.e. going to support groups and maintaining relationships with post-ops).  9-28-04 I have been dating a ton. Men in NYC are weird, I am dating 4 different people right now, none of which knows about the PS or the WLS. I live by "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"...I also have 2 mottos when it comes to dating, (1) Nothing matters till you say I love you and (2) All is fair in love in' War. With all that being said, the guy last night told me he "Google-d me"....I silently freaked out. he said he found nothing. Thank God he didn't "yahoo me", b/c all the WLS info shows up. So, based on that, I am changing my profile name to "Heather in NYC" 1
