Surgeon Testimonial

Jonathan Mandelbaum, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Mandelbaum was neutral. He didn't really strike me as cold nor over-caring. He was pretty much to the point. Eventually, I decided I liked the guy cause he seems patient and understanding. He's good at what he does and knowledgeable. He listened to my concerns as well. All in all, I would highly recommend him!!!

Down
on July 16, 2009 8:05 am
Down 80 pounds as of this morning. It's coming off a LOT slower,
but at least it's still coming off.

Hmmm...
on July 2, 2009 2:59 pm
So I weighed again today. My total loss is exactly 75 pounds, BUT I haven't lost a single pound since they partially fixed my stricture. This is frustrating! What's going to happen in a couple weeks when they fix it all the way? Am I going to gain? It's not like I'm eating much at all! It's just that I can keep down what I eat now. So this is all very frustrating. I know patience is a thing to have here, but I've never been a master in that department.

Procedure
on June 23, 2009 6:35 am
I finally got some relief yesterday through a minor "surgery." They called it a surgery but there was no cutting involved. They knocked me out, then took a scope and went through my throat to my tummy. They found what I already knew...the opening where my tummy connects to my intestines was way too small. They stretched it out with a "balloon" on the end of the scope. Because it was so tiny though, I have to go back in three weeks and have it done again so they can stretch it further. It's amazing I was able to keep even water down as small as it was! I had dinner last night and drank some diet lemonade. What a relief it was to realize it was all going to stay down! I'm sure my weight loss will slow down now that I can eat, but this is for my health after all, so be it.

Strictures
on June 18, 2009 2:26 pm
As I said earlier today, down 70 pounds! That's the good news. The other news is that the doc thinks I have something called strictures. That's where the scar tissue built up around my incision from tummy to intestine and won't let stuff pass through. I'm actually relieved they decided this diagnosis since I am sick of hugging the porcelain throne. To cure it, they have to make me all loopy first, then go through my mouth to my stomach with a scope that has a "balloon" on the end. Once in, they expand the balloon. That's that. Doesn't sound so bad and is definitely worth it! The surgeon's office should call me tomorrow with the date they're going to do this. In the meantime, I'm supposed to forget about food and just try and drink liquids all day...pretty much what I started doing yesterday anyways.

Down 70 pounds. Go to doc today and hope to address my issue
with keeping dinner down. I have been able to drink more the last
couple days since I've skipped breakfast for a glass of milk. I
think that's what I need to keep doing until my stomach can handle
more.
