Surgeon Testimonial

Amir Heydari, M.D.
I am just completing my insurance mandated 3 month physician supervised weight loss program. Dr. Heydari has been just wonderful. I am a surgical 'nervous nellie', and while he and his staff have been diligent in informing me of the risks, they have been very supportive and encouraging and PATIENT with me.
His staff is fabulous. They are punctual, loving, and seem to be very well educated on bariatric surgery.
They have a fabulous support group 2x's per month. At least 40 people attend. The before care has been great and the mandatory classes have been very informative. His post surgical care is set up in a very structured way and I'm looking forward to being able to tell you first hand about it. ( My sister is two years out from her surgery and her post care has been great.) He has a wonderful, caring demeanor and has a fabulous reputation for being a wonderful surgeon. His statistics for complications are below the national norm. He gets an A+ from me.

My Story

Hi,  I've read so many of your blogs and posts that I first I'd like to say thank-you all for sharing so openly about your experiences.  I am just finishing my 3 month insurance mandated physician supervised diet.  At first I wasn't happy to have to do this...if I could have lost weight by now with a diet I wouldn't be here.  Now I'm grateful for being able to do some of the "work" before I'm physically healing.  I am about to take one of the 2 mandatory pre-surg classes.  They are 3 hours long each.  Now to the nitty gritty.  I'm a 50 yr old married Mother of 2 teenage boys.  I've been heavy since middle school and became really heavy in my thirties, after marriage and kids.  My heaviest was 350+ and I'm now at 313.  I will need to do 10 days of a liquid diet prior to surgery and hope to be under 300 by then. I'd like to weigh under 165, my Surgeon says 180ish. Frankly, any weight that starts with a '1' I'm good with.  I can't even imagine it.  I'm having a RNY done.  I feel confident with my surgeon and his staff.  I can't wait to not hurt all of the time.  I can't wait for more energy, and to get rid of all or most of my 11 presciptions.  I'm diabetic, hypertensive and struggle with mild depression.  My mind is a whirlwind of possibilities and I feel like I'm ready to use this gift and get healthy.  I want my next 50 years!!  I've decided to "eat for healing".  Initially for my physical healing post surgically and then to heal the reasons I've mis-used food in the first place.  I'm nervous, hopeful, scared and brave to face this problem by knowing I need help with it.  I want to ride horses again and run and play with my 8month old nephew.  I want to fly comfortably.  I want to be able to keep my house up and work and still have some energy left for me.  I need the joy back in my life, and what is holding me back from the joy is not feeling well, and so much of the pain is weight related.  So that's it, the beginning of my journey.  I'll keep posting.
