I spoke with a friend who told me that Lisa's surgery went very well. She is home recuperating and is already sick of the liquid diet. Sounds like she's on her way!

My name is Lisa, I'm be 47 years old this Christmas Eve.  I've struggled with weight to some extent all my life, but I've lost the battle about the last ten years.  I started my appointments with Michigan Weight Loss Specialists back in October and expect a surgery date around the end of January 2007.

So tired...
on February 12, 2007 7:35 am
I'm finally getting my protein down, and a big part of my water, but I'm so tired.  I never knew a person could be this tired and still upright.  I know it will pass, but it sure makes for some long days.  I know I need to start exercising this week and it seems nearly impossible.

I've been very fortunate (knock on wood) that I haven't been nauseous, but I sure don't want to eat.  Talk about reverse food obsession.  I still think about eating all the time, but now it's about how to get in the most protein with the least consumption.  This too will get easier - right?

Vitamins...  I've been finishing off my chewables and finally opened that bottle of prenatal vitamins.  They look awefully big - I'm afraid to swallow one...

My mom is getting stronger since getting home from the hospital!

Doing well....
on February 4, 2007 1:39 pm
First, I want to thank everyone for their well wishes.  My surgery was pretty uneventful and I went home the next day.  Wednesday was my worst day and every day since has been a little better.

It was hard staying at my parents' for as long as I did.  Wednesday, my worst day, my mother was hospitalized.  I chose to stay on with my dad getting my daily walk be going home to feed the fish and the outdoor cat.  My mom came home Thursday and I was finally able to come home to my house on Saturday.  Now it's back to work on Monday.

The hardest part is getting in everything I'm supposed to.  The liquid protein was hard, but 64 oz of water on top of it was just impossible.  Now I've started some soft foods and there just aren't enough hours in the day!

I was down 28# on Friday when I went for my checkup (that's from the time I started the prep diet).  Woo hoo!!!!!!

I have a date...
on December 26, 2006 1:20 pm

January 22.  I had an appointment with my regular doctor today.  He's working hard to get my asthma as good as possible before surgery.  He's been so supportive.

Ready for surgery
on December 22, 2006 8:50 am
Results of my endoscopy are AOK.  I talked to the nurse this morning and she said they'll probably call me next week to start making arrangements.  It feels so weird to be so excited and so scared all at the same time!

Well, that wasn't so bad...

My friend Jill took me for my endoscopy last Friday.  I was afraid it was going to be aweful, but I don't remember a thing from the time the doctor said "we'll give you some goodies" until Jill woke me up.  Got teased big time that after all these years this was the first time she'd seen me drunk.  I don't think I totally woke up until sometime yesterday.  Should have results in a few days but it didn't appear that there were any significant problems.  Hopefully I'll have a date soon!

My Story

As a child, I was mildly "chubby".  I remember wearing a 6X in kindergarten.  I kind of stayed that way until junior high when my height caught up with my weight.  I graduated from high school at 5'7" and 140#.  Ever since, my weight has gone gradually upward but didn't really take off until my 30's when I bounded through the 200's and into the 300's.  I've been through Sparrow Hospital's weight management program twice and haven't been able to loose enough, or keep it off.  This past summer my doctor suggested that I contact the folks at Spectrum Health about weight loss surgery.  I started those appointments in October 2006, had a consult with the surgeon in November, and expect to have surgery around the end of January.  I really look forward to taking a load off my joints, and just plain feeling more energetic.  It's an really exciting time, but also very scarey!
