Surgeon Testimonial

Paul Arcand, M.D.
I like Dr. Arcand. While he seems to be a bit jumpy and unsettled (qualities I don't particularly want in a surgeon) he was extremely helpful in answering questions. I've only heard great things about him - from both my primary care physician and from others in the hospital I've come across.rnrnI found it easy to ask even difficult questions, and Dr. Arcand didn't leave until I was satisfied.rnrnDr. Arcand addressed the risks of the surgery and balanced them against the reality of not having it done: diabetes, heart disease, etc. My mind was already made up to have the gastric bypass, but he confirmed everything I had been thinking.rnrnSo far, I would highly recommend him and the program he is associated with.

Is My Journey Almost Over...Or Just Beginning?
on February 5, 2010 12:47 pm
Hi! My name is Sara and I'm new to obesityhelp.com. I've been in nutrition and behavior medicine classes for what seems like forever now (actually just months) and I've finally been given a surgery date of Tuesday, February 9 for a gastric bypass.

My surgeon is Dr. Paul Arcand, but really, the Fallon program is a team approach that is so much more valuable. The classes were invaluable, especially behavioral medicine. Taking on habits that were formed for 32 years was quite a task. It wasn't that I didn't know what to eat or that I should excercise, but actually having the motivation to do what was needed was really awesome. In fact, ask anyone who's heavy and they'll tell you "I know I'm supposed to eat right - I know what I'm supposed to be eating, but that doesn't mean I'm eating it" and "Everyone knows they are supposed to excercise, but how many of us actually do it?" and other things. I already had the tools from years of nutrition classes and appointments and years of stop-and-start gym memberships. I just needed the resolve and determination to put it all together and to STICK WITH IT. Anyone can diet...anyone can walk a mile a day...it's few of us that can commit to a goal and keep on the path to obtaining it.

That's what I'm doing. I'm already in the middle of my journey. I've lost over 50 pounds through Weight Watchers and by joining a gym (get a trainer with regular appointments to stay motivated - it works). My starting weight was 380.4 pounds. I'll be going into surgery at 328 (and hopefully no more - no "last supper" syndrome for me!). I'm on my way and can't wait to see the effort I'm putting into this measure pay off even more. Here I go! Soon...I Will Be Myself...
