Surgeon Testimonial

J. Kenneth Reed, M.D.
I had heard a lot of great things about Dr. Reed, and I wasn't disappointed. I have met so many surgeons that have no bedside manner at all. Dr. Reed is kind and very honest. He did not mislead me or treat me like I wasn't worthy. He did my surgery on June 29th 2006. I was visited twice (because of the long weekend) but didn't need to see him more then I did. He is very strict about pre and post op care and expects you to understand and pay attention! Good Job! I like how the office has kept in contact with me, and has been wonderful pre and post op! My whole experience has been exceptional! I would recommend him to anyone who is seriously prepared for WLS!

on September 26, 2008 3:36 am
I got the call I have been waiting for from my ob/gyn. I am having Lazer ablation done on Oct 3rd to stop my periods. Thank god. Now I will know whether it was me or the pills that caused the weight gain.  I will Keep in touch, and Thanks Kitty for the well wishes.

Frustrated at 145
on September 24, 2008 5:57 am
I am so terriefied that I have blown it.  My iron got so low that i need injections, then the weight gain started, they put me on Marvelon to stop my periods, and then I really gained fast. So too tired to exercise and taking BC, now I am on Remeron for RLS (restless leg) and depression. god its a vicious circle. I feel like I have blown everything, and regular docs just don't get it!    I am not due to see Dr Reed til April and I don't see Nancy anymore. But I think I need to talk to her.   I am just so frustrated!!!!!!!!

I wrote this to a friend but it so decribes where I am at!

UGH!!!!!! now the battle begins,
on September 16, 2008 11:36 am
Well I just had an eye opening experience that I swore I would never go through again.  BEWARE!!!!  never look away from your eating plan! I gave in for too long and nibbled and treated myself to reg
coffee, and sweets, breads, and just plain fats. I have gone from a size 5 to a size 8 in 3 months. NO WAY am I staying here. 0ut with the new habits, and back to the good ones of the past 2 years.  Starting tomorrow I am beginning a walk run program. I can't stand the thought of gaining it all back. I have been on marvelon (birth control) for 3 months to stop my periods and control my iron loss. I think that is part of my problem, and I can't wait to get off of these pills.  wish me luck.

Again Sorry for being away so long!
on August 17, 2008 5:09 am
Well I am happy to say that I am still at goal! Woo Hoo 136 and holding.
But I am still very anemic. Iron levels are not improving as of this post. I have had 30 iron injections to date in the last 3 months.  20 of those are daily, and I am now doing them myself. I still take all my vitamins but for some reason I can not store iron. We are discussing doing a uterine lazer ablation to stop my periods, we have just started birth control pills to stop them for now. I started with Alese, that is a joke. My 7 day period turned in to 14 days and so we switched to Marvelon.  Well 2 days of migraines and nausea and I am period free so far. I find out more on Tuesday and will post what my iron has risen to at that point.
Take care everyone!             2 years, 1 month and 19 days post op, and I would still do it again!!!!!!

Sorry I have been MIA
on December 5, 2007 7:09 pm
I have been working the grave yard shift since May and I find that I don't sleep enough. So I have been cat napping for 6 months! Not good for the diet either.
I have been bouncing around with my weight, Somewhere between 130 and 138. But I only manage to keep my weight above 135 by eating candy. I know it's a bad habit but as soon as I stop, (because of pressure from my husband and my dad) I drop weight really fast. I am 128 today, and that is a drop of 8 lbs in less then a week. I do graze on more protiens and iron rich cereals, but during a shift I have only got time for licorice.
I am battling low iron (blood is a 3) and low B12 and low calcium, and low folate. I started having tingling in my lips and tongue, and apparently that is a sign of low calcium and magnesium. There is a disorder based on this condition. It's called....????

My Story

My story starts like everyone else, I have been shades of heavy all my life. Though my mom doesn't seem to think so. I have just gradually gained to the point I am at now. I am 250lbs and have a BMI of 41.7. I am 5'4" tall. I am married to a wonderful man, and have a seven year old son. I am just tired of being heavy. I am also a hair stylist so I am in touch with a lot of people. And this is where I learned about Gastric bypass surgery.

All of this and more is continued in my blog, please check the archives............................
