Six Months Out
on September 24, 2007 11:59 am
I am six months out of LapBand Surgery.  I'm doing fine, and yes I am a loser!  I am down 52 lbs.  I have had one fill, thus far.  I first lost 30 lbs and then I just stopped losing.  After the fill I lost another 20lbs.  Which I believe the fill was in May.

Anyhoo, I find myself stuck again now and not really losing any weight, just maintaining.  Partly due to my lack of sufficient exercise. I hurt my ankle and was not able to exercise as much as I should have over the summer.  I am just now getting  back into the swing of things excercise-wise.  I take my vitamins and calcium religiously however.  I could probably benefit from drinking more water.

I would say that so far I am glad I had the surgery.  Lap Band is slower, but more deliberate and safe.

Had Band Surgery 3/14
on March 20, 2007 7:54 pm
Surgery went well.  Released the next day.  For the most part the experience was tolerable.  The dearth of nurses makes for a difficult stay in the hospital, however.  Good thing I was in the recovery room most of the time due to sleep apnea.

The only real complication during surgery was that I stopped breathing on my own.  Therefore, the anesthesiologist decided to keep the breathing tube in for some time post op.  This was absoutely a dreadful experience.  I tried to pull it out, I thrashed,  I kicked, etc.  They had to put me in restraints.  Finally, what seemed like hours later they removed the tube.  All went well from that point.

Another part I did not like was not being able to drink anything at all.  I became parched and asked for sponges basically folded up guaze dampened to keep me somewhat hydrated.

Most of the nurses were OK.  But there was one tag team that if I could I would have got up and smacked the sh*T out of.

All in all, the pain was very manageable, and I couldnt believe how fast I began recovering and able to walk etc.
