My Story My story is that I have been heavy all my life, I weighed 198 in the 6th grade. Both my parents are overweight and have always struggled with their weight with yo yo diets & everything you could imagine. As I got older I started to really look at my parent's health. My father's kidneys failed him in 1995, he has high blood pressure and heart problems, my mom has had mini strokes and both parents are diabetics, so I knew that if I didn't do something soon that I could be in the same shape and I haven't even had children yet!
My mother had gastric bypass surgery in 96 and I feel that it helped prolong her life, if she never had her surgery she might not be with me now. she still struggles with her health at times but I believe that it is much easier than it would've been if she hadn't gone through gastric bypass surgery. Watching my mom over the years really made me realize that there is no quick fix for obesity. Even if you choose surgery it still takes diet and exercise to maintain!
I have heard people say that Bariactric surgery is an "easy way out "but it is not!!
In my opinion it always seems to be the person without a weight problem that says that.
I really made my mind up to have bariatric surgery in august 2007. I had my surgery 1/16/08 and I have lost 11 lbs in my first week. I am looking forward to losing a lot more. I'm looking forward to my new life!
