I am a 35 yrs old single mother of a 12 yr old son. I've been overweight pretty much all my life. My first attempted at RNY was in 2005, but was denied. Things happen for a reason, two months later my mom was dignosed with grade 4 brain cancer. She was given 4-6 mths to live and turned out to be their poster child in their research program. During the past couple of years I have been working with my doctor to get approved & taking care of my mom. Finely got approved with a surgery date of 3/8, then my mom took a turn for the worse and passed away 2/27/07. Wasn't ready for surgery so I have reschedule my date for 4/2/07. It will be hard not having mom (my rock) here to support me physically.
I have been going to the gym 6 days a week for the past 2 weeks and it is helping. Decided to get my son and I five sessions with a personal trainer for Christmas. We had our first session a little over a week ago, I didn't realize just how much upper body strength I had lost till I tried doing all the different weight machines.
It's been a while since I last posted. Things have been going much better! I am currently on blood thinners for the next 6 months to help break up clots. Other than that had my 6 month blood work and everything is good just low on iron, but working on getting that back up. Time to pick up the exercising to drop the remaining 80 lbs.
I am a week late in posting my 4 month, as of today I am now down 102 lbs. Can't believe it is all happening so fast. I actually have to add a meal. Ususally my NUT likes us to do 3 meals and 2 snacks, but doctor wants me to do 4 meals and 1-2 snacks to start slowing down my weight. Also try to eat 3/4 to 1 cup of food at a time. My vitamin, calcium, and B-12 levels are great, but I do need to up my iron and potassium.
Got the call that I do have a blood clot in my left groan and he is sending me to a vascular doctor closer to home for a second option on where we go next. I do still have the greenfiled filter in place to prevent clots from breaking off and going to my lungs or heart. But during this time I have to stop all exercising so I don't know how that is going to effect my weight loss or what muscles I do have.
Well, i don't know how to put this except I almost died. I went in July 9th for a greenfield filter removal and they told me prior to procedure that if they noticed it had attached to blood vessel due to scar tissue they would have to leave it in. WELLLLL....I got a doctor who though he could just keep pulling on it to detach. In the processes he caused clotting at filter and in both of the vessels in my groan. I was put in ICU and the next day they had to make sure he did not tear the vena cava vessel. Thank God he didn't BUT...went back into surgery so they could blast blood thinners directly to clots. While on the table they put me into kidney failer, my cathidar bag was the color of wine. (SCAREY AS HECK) Back in ICU for 2 days I went. All in all I was in the hospital for 6 1/2 days and have to follow-up with kidney doctor next week, then in 3 weeks have a CTscan on my legs to check for anymore clotting. If they do find clotting then I will have to be put on blood thinners for 6 months.
Can't believe it has been 3 months already. Currently down 79lbs / BMI 48.4 and feeling great. Have more engery, I have been riding bike, walking and taking the stairs everyday at work and my knees do not hurt or am I out of breath....YEA!!!! Still waiting for my incision to heal completely. I go on the 9th to have my greenfield filter removed, then on the 11th for my 3 month follow-up interested in knowing how my blood levels are doing.
