Surgeon TestimonialTaesun MoonI really love Dr. Moon. He has the best bed side manners and he is so pleasant. My impression has never changed about him from day one I was happy with him from the day I met him. He also has proformed my scope test which went so smooth better then when my gastro. doctor did it. Dr. Moon did my surgery plus many others I've talked with. Everyone that I've talked with has been so happy with him. I'm sad to know he is no longer with Arnot and I hope he stays in the area and I can see him as my acting doctor. I wish we had more doctors like him!

Hi! Welcome to my profile page! I'm Christine I'm 36 years old and had my gastric bypass surgey July 25th 2008. Please feel free to read my story below. I'm recently married on August 12th 2010 and we are raising my 8 yr old newphew. No kids of my own but maybe someday soon. I'm a type 2 diabetic with a handful of problems. I have several problems getting better since my surgery like thyroid problems, fibro with chronic fatigue, acid relux, bowel problems, Diverticulitis, 2 hernias, slipped disk and herniated disk, fracture in my back and allergies. But overall I am feeling better and would have my surgery all over again!

Weighed in yesterday at the Dr.s I'm down to 107. Not even trying to lose weight. I'm still drinking my protein coffee for breakfast. Once in a while drinking protein shake for lunch, but only when I'm not hungry or miss lunch due to time. I'm a little concerned cause there is 30 days till I renew my vows and I'm afraid my gown will be to big and will have to be taken in.

Weighed in recently and I weighed 112. I bounce between 111 and 115. Almost at my 3 yr post-opt mark. Still doing great with the exception of heartburn, nausea, and feeling full in the a.m. I gotta go for a scope test July 8th and see what they find.

Weighed in at the GYM and I'm back upto 113 1/2. Gosh so frustrating. I was sick last week so skipped the GYM. Strange thing is I thought I was eating better. Protein coffee for breakfast (as I am just not hungry in the mornings) if I do get hungry I might eat cereal or a granola bar, lunch always varies as I work for the school cafe, but I do have mandarin oranges daily cause I really like them, Dinner is useually grilled chicken with tossed salad or cottage and Splenda sweetened applesauce and beans, except on Fridays we cook for the legion and useually eat there not great choices to choose from so I useually just eat a hot dog with meatsauce and 2 onion rings maybe a few frys from my husband's dinner. It must have been from not going to the GYM this last week cause I have been eating like this for weeks. I could be just retaining water so that could explain the weight gain to.

Just a quick up date. Well I gained 7 pounds gotta love winter months. Got up to 118. But luckly lost it again. Back down to 111. Got the stomach bug the second week of March. Really couldn't eat much mornings. Had nausea and started eating Activia yogurt but it didn't help. Started my acid relax meds 2x's a day and it has helped. Still really not hungry mornings so I just drink a scoop of protein powder in my coffee. Have a appt with Gastrologist in May to go over my problems. I got my hair cut the first week of March and it's growing like a weed. I'd say 1/2-1-inch already. The only things I'm doing different now is getting a better lunch since I work for the school district. I have my meat or whatever protein available and manadrain oranges. My favorite fruit. I'm washing my hair with Dove shampoo with conditioner every other day and Aussie every other day. Plus using Dove conditioner daily. I do skip washing my hair on Saturdays cause I was reading that you wash out all of the natural oils when washing your hair and you should actually wash your hair only once a week. Plus I'm not longer using a flat iron or blow dryer on my hair as I wash and go. I've been using this protein mascara and even my eyelashes look like they growing in better. I think it's getting more protein in the morning and better lunches that's helping my hair and weight. I have been doing tossed salads with chicken breasts at night for my dinner. As I don't wanna gain anymore weight since my hubby and I are renewing our vows this August I wanna fit in my wedding dress. My husband and I have been going to the GYm more 2-3 times a week. Just 30 minutes. Walking on the treadmill and biking.

My Story
This will be a work in progress as the first time I lost what I wrote so I'm saving as I go. My story where to begin. Should I begin where I fit into a size 1 jeans at 12 yrs old and thought it was GREAT I fit in a size 1 jeans how wonderful or where I seen my big butt in my future hubby's side mirror and thought OH CRAP my butt is way to big at 213 pounds my biggest ever. Where ever I began I've had a weight battle for a long time. I would lose weight 10 pounds a year in the summers but then gain it right back come winter. My biggest issue I'm a type 2 diabetic. My sugars weren't bad but started to get worse with time and I didn't want to go through what my grandparents did due to their diabetes. I watched my grandfather lose both legs and my grams sugars go so low she couldn't figure out what to do to get it back up without help from someone that was able to think straight. My journey on WLS went pretty fast I must say. Jan. 2008 my friend and I was talking about her sister having the surgery and I thought I've played with having it for years even being turned down several years before this, but I thought maybe it was time for me to really think about it again and consider trying to be approved. I already had a friend who had RNY surgery about 6 yrs ago so I knew what to expect and she encouraged me to really consider it. I decided I wanted Lap Band and made the appointment. When I met my Wonderful doctor Dr. Moon, I thought what a wonderful guy and how I'd be in great care. On Feb. 2008 I weighed 203 pounds (not my biggest but enough). Dr. Moon told me I needed to lose at least 5 pounds before having my surgery and since having gastroparesis (a side affect from the diabetes) and acid reflux I would need RNY instead of Lapband. I was so disappointed as I didn't want this forever, but what choice did I have either keep my weight, keep being in so much pain from the Gastroparesis, continue to have diabetes problems or do the surgery and have a chance at a semi-normal life. So I decided RNY was what was best for me. I started my paper work and was approved right away within months. I took my Diet/Nut class and by June I was thinking no this is not right for me, I'm going to have give up sweets no RNY is not for me. Well after talking with family and friends I decided it was right for me and I was gonna be ok without the sweets. A few weeks later I recieved my letter that my surgery was set for July 25th 2008. I was sent to see the Diet/Nut. and I was down to 198 I was so surprised my surgery date was set up so fast. By the first week of July 2008 I recieved 2 calls to have my surgery sooner and I turned this down as we already had vacation plans and I was so not really ready at that point. Well the few weeks past and it was 3 days before my surgery day and I had to meet with Dr. Moon to go over again what I'd experience, go through and of course the possiblity of death. I lost more weight and was down to 194. I couldn't believe it as I was eating what I wanted to eat (with minor changes such as 1/2 cup Kashi cereal and 8oz yogurt for breakfast ) and very little excerise. That evening my future hubby and I decided to go to a mexican restaurant. I questioned rather I was really going to go through this and have the surgery or not and I packed my stomach so full with tons of food (my last big supper). Well my mind got made up at 1:00am when I had such bad pain from Gastroparesis (which became more often) and heartburn that I couldn't even sleep. My surgery day came Friday July 25th 2008 and I was down to 193. I was scared and excited at the same time. I was lucky enought to have the laposcopic RNY instead of the fillet cut. After my surgery when I woke my first thought was what did I do I must be crazy why was I so worried about how I looked. My stomach didn't hurt much after my surgery it wasn't any worse then when I had my gallbladder out but the Grenade well that was another story. That was the most uncomfortable thing to have. I was so uncomfortable I was up walking the halls that same night not alot like every couple hours even though I was pretty drugged up, but as often as I could stay awake I was up and moving. Saturday July 26th 2008 the nurses said I needed to be weighed and the scale said 199 pound I flipped I told the nurse something's wrong with this thing I weighed 193 pounds when I had come in before my surgery. She said to me didn't anyone tell you that you could gain weight at first and of course I said NO! When I left the hospital Monday July 28th I weighed 191 pounds (that was much better). In just under 2 weeks I went for my Diet/Nut meeting and I weighed 182. About a week later I went to see my diabetes doctor and I weighed 177 pounds. For me my weight had gone slow compared to some peoples but it's what I liked as I figured I wouldn't end up with a ton of skin (man was I wrong). My sugars have since stabled out (a few up's and down's still). Overall this surgery has leveled out my sugars, ended my sugar craving (which is what I wanted so much to have), stopped the Gastroparesis pain, and leveled out my Thyroid levels. Would I do it again? If you would have asked me for the first 2 months post-opt I'd said No, but now For Sure!
