I went to see my pcm (who was very nice) about 8 days ago to bring up the subject of WLS. I took my husband along for moral support. I thought that my pcm was going to shoot down the subject or lecture me on it but he didnt. This was only the second time I had met my pcm, the first time I wanted to ask him about the surgery but I chickened out. I went to see him to have skin tabs/moles removed from my inner thighs (a result of my fat thighs rubbing together constantly) and he asked me if there was anything else that I wanted to talk to him about and I chickened out and said no. Well since then I have really been doing my research, I have been on this website daily reading blogs and articles. I have read every word from the website of the surgeon who would most likely be doing my surgery.
So I made an appt specifically to talk to him about weight loss and took my husband along. I brought a folder full of print outs, I wanted him to know that I had been doing my research. I let him know that I know I already qualify being that my bmi is close to 45. I know the steps that I need to take with tricare... i.e. taking the 12 week weight loss class. I told him that my asthma was making it harder and harder to excersise. I told him that I didn't know my cholesterol or blood sugar because I hadn't had these things tested for about 3 years. This of course got me sent to the lab for these tests (good thing I had fasted) I'm now being refered to Landstuhl for a pulminary function test. It will basically let them know the severity of my asthma. I hope that it's not too severe because my pcm mentioned wanting to put me on a steroid inhaler. I don't want this because I'm afraid being on a steroid will hinder my chances of being approved for surgery. But I will see how the test turns out and bring that subject up then. I go for the test on Nov 14. I'm sad that I have to wait until Jan to start the class, but I have been waiting this long what's a few more months. So I will take this one step at a time.....
