Surgeon Testimonial

Randy Haluck, M.D.
I've just shceduled my surgery and I was really impressed with my Surgeon. He went into depth when explaining the procedure and possible side effects/complications. I think he's going to be great! The program through Penn State Hershey Medical Center was great. It is very thorough. I have all the answers I need, so far. The staff has been great also.

3 Months Out and 60 lbs. Lighter
on April 27, 2008 7:55 pm
I feel great.  It's been three months and I've lost 60 lbs.  I haven't vomited yet.  I still get really nauseous if I eat something too sweet.  But if that's the worst I will feel, that's fine by me.  I worry about my protein, of course.  However, I use the GNC punch flavored liquid protein.  It tastes great!  Like koolaid.  I got tired of the milk drinks.  I encourage anyone to try this.  And remember at GNC you can return it opened within the first 30 days for a full refund.

Well, it's been two months now, and I'm doing great!  I've lost 47 lbs.  I hit a plateau there for about 10 days, but I started going back to Curves and that has really made a difference.  I have only dumped a few times, of course from trying to eat something I shouldn't.

I went to my first support group meeting tonight and it was very interesting and helpful.  I met lots of interesting people and learned a few things too.

I haven't bought any new clothes yet.  However, I have lots in several sizes down.  It's nice to pull something out in a smaller size and know it finally fits.  I'm so looking forward to this summer!!

12 days out and doing great!
on January 23, 2008 4:14 pm

Well, so far so good.  I have been doing really well.  I tried to eat cream corn yesterday and that made me a little uncomfortable.  But I haven't experienced any vomiting yet.  Just a small amount of nausea.  I feel I am doing great.  I take pain meds only at night, because I sleep on my stomach.  I tried to go without them, but awoke in a lot of pain.  Other than that, all is well.  I've heard people say they can't get all their protein in daily.  I am not having any problems, so far.  I have found K2O water has 5 grams and a protein supplement powder called "Unjury" has 23 grams, which I mix with skim milk and carnation instant breakfast (SF) and that gives me 36 grams per shake.  I drink 2 daily plus count the protein  in my food and drink some of the water and I've got it.  The doctor said as long as I get the protein and B12 in my body, I shouldn't lose any hair.  I've cut mine off so short until I can't take a chance of losing any of it.  Well, let's see how the next few days go....

I've finally done it and am glad I did.  It wasn't as bad a I thought it would be.  I am still sore and a little weak at times, but I don't have to take pain meds very often.  I'm really nervous, now.  I've been told it's hard to get all the protein consumed daily, but I've been investigating and found a shake that has 50 grams of protein.  So I'm going to try that and see if it works.  I have been out of bed quite a bit since I got home.  Today,  I even climbed the stairs a few times.  I did gain about 14 lbs while in the hospital, from all the fluids the put in me.  But I've lost about 12 lbs since then so tomorrow I should start seeing a difference.  I have been constipated a little too, but other than that I'm doing okay for now.

My Story

I am a 41 year old single Mom and Grandmother.  Actually, I have custody of my 5 month old granddaughter.  I have been overweight most of my life.  I was overweight as a child but slimmed up as a teenager.  I married at the age of 18 and immediately started gaining weight.  Two years later I broke my back in an auto accident and two years after that I had my only child.  My weight gradually increased.   I have tried every diet in the book, and have lost as much as 50 pounds, only to gain it back plus 20 pounds more.  I've been trying to get the gastric bypass done for about 7 years now.  I have changed insurances 3 times and have finally found one that will pay.  This time, everything went very smooth.  Therefore I really believe it is meant for me to have this surgery.  I started out while living in Georgia.  I now live in Pennsylvania.  I'm looking forward to just being able to do things with my granddaughter and not tire out so easily, or go to NYC and shop all day without being in pain with my feet and my back.  I'm very excited about this.  I'm counting down the days.  I have 14 days to go.  I'm already going through my closets and getting out clothes I know i'll never wear again.
