Surgeon Testimonial

T. Paul Singh, M.D.
Dr. Singh is great. He is very thorough and makes sure that you are aware of the positives and negatives associated with surgery. He makes certain that you are ready and know whats expected of you both before and after surgery. He has a way of setting your mind and nerves at ease the minute he starts speaking.

Hi my name is Jan and I am a 38 year old mother of 3.  I am just beginning my journey into the world of Gastric Bypass.  I will have my initial orientation at Albany Med on 11/21/06.  I am a little nervous, but mostly excited about the thought of finally getting healthy.  I have read all of the comments about Dr Singh and Dr Rosati and they both seem very good.   I am hoping to talk to people who are in all stages of the process, just so I can get an idea of what to expect and to get some support from people who really understand what I am going through.  I have had people tell me that I am taking the "easy" way out, which I think is ridiculous!  I don't find this to be an easy way at all.  I find it to be the ONLY way for me.

Finally a loser!
on April 11, 2007 7:58 am
So, the surgery, laproscopic Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass, went without a hitch on 4/2/07.  Today I am 9 days out and feeling great.  I'm still in the all liquid phase of my recovery, but have had no nausea or vomiting at all.  My main complaint, which is not even that bad, is gas.  I go to the Dr. tomorrow so I'll get my first official weigh in and I am excited to see my progress.   I have been doing the stairs in my house and walking for the past couple of days, also getting back into the whole housework routine and surprisingly I am not exhausted.  I thought I would be napping all the time, but I have a decent amount of energy and feel ready to go.  I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

I've got a date!
on February 27, 2007 3:59 pm

Well it's finally all becoming real.  I met with Dr. Singh today and I have a surgery date.  4/2/07 will be the first day of my new life.  Dr. singh was great.  I was in and out without much of a wait and he put my nerves at ease immediately.   I am so excited!  I can't wait to be on the loser's bench!  4 weeks, 6 days and counting!!!

Well I finally got my appointment for my surgeon consult! It was delayed because I had to wait for the results of the second sleep study to come in, which took forever! My appointment with Dr. Singh is 2/27/07! YAY

Will keep you posted if I get a surgery date.........

Update
on January 19, 2007 9:02 pm

I did it!  I lost my 10% and I finished all my pre-surgery requirements.  I received my referral to the surgeon today so hopefully I will get to see him within the next month or so.  The only bad news is I have to go on a CPAP machine because I have sleep apnea.  I am hoping to have surgery in March or early April.  Until then I will keep on going to support group  and eating healthy.  I can't stress enough how helpful and motivating the support groups are during this exciting and scary time in my life.  I have met some wonderful people and made some great friends.   I will keep you posted.....

1 month into my journey
on December 29, 2006 4:53 am
Well, it 's been just over a month since I started this weight loss process.  I am proud to say that I am about 20 lbs lighter than when I started and still losing.(7lbs to go for my 10%)  I will be getting my clearance from my PCP on 1/16/07, had my sleep study and am just waiting for the psych evaluation on 1/19/07.  I am also seeing my nutritionist on that day so if all goes well I am hoping to get a referral to the surgeon.   I have met some very kind and caring people along the way and I can't say enough about the wonderful support network here and at Albany Meds support group.   I am hoping to have surgery by April, but it's ok if I have a wait a little longer.

My Story

Hi, My name is Janet and I am a 38 year old mother of 3.  I have only battled with my weight since I started college.  Go figure.  Since 1987, I have steadily put on weight and really excelerated the process with the birth of my children.  I have tried every diet known to man, with very minimal success.  It seems like I can lose 40lbs and then my body says, thats enough, and I put it all back on plus some. It's a vicious cycle.  I have been contemplating WLS for about a year and a half, but I always chickened out.  I guess I was not ready.  I AM finally ready and have taken the first step.  I called Albany Med and got the paperwork, filled it out and faxed it back.  I was shocked when I got a phone call 2 hours later to set up my orientation.  I can't wait to start my jourey.  My goals:

1.  Lose 125lbs

2.  Play with my boys without getting exhausted.

3.  Shop for clothes in regular sizes, no more plus size shopping!

4.  Fit into my wedding dress when I renew my vows in October 2007. (20 years!)

5.  Where a bathing suit

6.  Ride a roller coaster!

7.  Walk in public with my head held high!

8.  Get my blood pressure taken without having to say "you need to use the large cuff".

This is a life journey and I am ready to go!  Good luck to all that have taken steps to get their lives back!
