Surgeon Testimonial

Jon L. Schram, M.D., F.A.C.S.
So far I have only met with Dr. Schram for the initial consultation. I thought that he was very informative during the group presentation. When we met in the individual meeting, I thought he was very compassionate. As soon as I mentioned that I had PCOS, he said that he knew that this surgery was the only way to help it. It made my day. The staff is great. I enjoyed each of them. Dr. Schram is with the Barix Clinic, so the aftercare program is quite comprehensive and with a very strict diet moving form clear liquids, to liquids, pureed foods, soft foods and finally normal foods over a 6-8 week period after the surgery. Also, there are follow-up visits at the clinic after the surgery. I don't have any complaints or concerns about his manner or abilities. I am really excited that he is going to be my surgeon.

I started my WLS journey in 2003; my mother had Open RNY and lost 120 lbs.  I watched her life change for the better and decided that I was ready for that change. I started actively working with the Barix Clinic in 2003.  I went through all the gyrations; the nutritionist meeting, the psychological exam, the physicals, everything that I needed for my insurance company to approve me.  After all the docs were submitted, I was informed that I had a written exclusion in my policy for WLS.   My journey haulted for a while until my DH and I decided to try for a child.  My husband and I went through 8 months of fertility treatment, to no avail (I have PCOS).  If you know PCOS, you know weight loss is the best answer.  So, with my insurance saying "no", I started on the self pay route.  On February 5th, 2008 I had Open RNY.  I can honestly say that it is the best thing that I have ever done for myself.  I have hope that my DH and I will be able to have a baby.  If anyone has any questions about my journey please feel free to ask me anything!  I would love to help in anyway.
