Counting down the days, yet again...
on April 22, 2010 7:58 am
I can't believe that it's only 11 days until my surgery.  I once again started OptiFast on Monday, April 19.  This is my 4th day and I'm starting to get somewhat hungry.  I see other people eating and I want to just freaking eat something.  However I know that I'm on my way to sitting on the loser's bench forever and that makes me feel good.  All this hunger is going to be worth it in the end.  I just have to stay focused and push through.

Good news
on March 12, 2010 5:19 pm
Yesterday I went to get my second EGD.  I had to be there at 7:00 and was super tired.  I was so ready for them to knock me out so I could rest a bit.  It seemed I was only out for a minute and was in the recovery room.  The good news is that I no longer have an ulcer!  The bad news is that the anesthesia made me sleep all day yesterday and until 10:00 am this morning.  I still feel a little groggy.  They must have given me more anesthetic this time than last because I wasn't as tired last time.

Today I also went to the hematologist to get the results of my blood clotting test.  They all came back negative.  She said I have absolutely nothing to worry about.  Yippy!

Now it's time for May to get here!

New Surgery Date...
on March 10, 2010 9:17 am

My psychiatrist was encouraging me to wait until May to have the surgery.  She thinks that I will be more mentally prepared than if I had it March 15.  I called the surgeon's office yesterday and inquired about changing the date until May.  There were no problems at all changing.  Pam, the office manager, was very helpful.  She called this morning and my date has been changed until May 3.  My husband is glad since he will have more time to research and get prepared.  I am somewhat glad, yet sad that I had to move the date.  I was and am still ready to have the surgery.  However, I'm not sure if my body is.  I go tomorrow for my second endoscopy to make sure the ulcer has gone away.  Then on Friday I go to see if my blood work came back okay.  If either of them aren't good, I will have more time than just the weekend to prepare.  I guess I need to tell myself that changing the date was for the best.

Counting down the days...
on March 6, 2010 8:52 am

I am 9 days away from surgery as of today and have had a few set-backs along the way.  First of all, my GI doc found a small ulcer that has to be assessed before I can have the surgery.  Secondly, my mother found out she is susceptible to blood clotting, so I had to be tested for that as well.  The second endoscopy will not happen until next Thursday and I won't get the results for the blood work until next Friday.  Eeekk...I am too close to surgery to be getting results that could push back the surgery.  I hope all is okay and I can go forward as planned.

Opti-Fast Diet
on February 26, 2010 8:27 am
Well tomorrow I start the Opti-Fast diet for 2 weeks.  We have our frig stocked full of the RTD Opti-Fast.  I get 4 RTD drinks, 1 soup, and 1 nutritional bar a day.  I can also have wiggly jello and popsicles.  Dr. Moazzez wanted me to lose 20 lbs before surgery from the time of my first appointment.  I have lost probably around 8 lbs since then and have around 12 more to go.  Hopefully this diet will help me reach that goal by surgery day.  I'm just worried that I will get hungry and want to eat something.  Let's hope that doesn't happen.

This means that countdown to my surgery date will begin tomorrow.  Two weeks of Opti-fast and two days of liquid diet before surgery.  Owee...Two weeks isn't that long at all.  I'm getting excited!

My Story

I am 30 years old and have struggled with my weight my entire life.  When I asked my mom how old I was when I started getting a weight problem, she said I was about 6.  At 6 years old I was a chubby little girl.  I remember playing t-ball when I was about that age, maybe a little older, and my uniform pants had to be made because they didn't go up to a size that fit me.  So my journey of being a struggling chubby girl began.  All through elementary school (we didn't have a middle school) until 7th grade, I remember wearing stretchy clothes.  It was probably hard to find clothes to fit me.  In eighth grade, I remember wearing a size 18 pants.  The next couple of years, I decided that I needed to lose weight so I started not eating and throwing up when I ate.  I got down to a size 8 by the time I was about 15 or 16 years old.  It wasn't too long after that when I started regaining my weight.  By the time I was a senior in high school, I was back up to a size 20.  In college, my weight ballooned to 277.  Then I decided to try the Atkin's diet to lose.  I did lose about 75 lbs, but that too was short lived.  I began gaining my weight back, but got engaged along the way.  Upon my engagement, I began taking Phentermine to lose the weight back down to 220 or so.  After the wedding, I began gaining weight yet again.  Upon moving from Wyoming to Virginia, I began having pain throughout my body and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in September 2008.  In the meantime I was gaining weight.  I not only was gaining weight, but I was bedridden for a month and half in the summer of 2009.  The fibromyalgia doesn't allow me to do any form of exercise.  Because of this and the fact that I love to eat, I ballooned to my highest weight of 359.  I am ready to take back control of my life.  I am ready to take this step to find the person inside of me that I always wanted to be.  I am ready for a change and the change begins 5/3/10.
