Surgeon Testimonial

Thadeus Trus, M.D.
After starting at the Vermont Program I have had to change over to NH Program. Dr. Laycock is the head of the program there but as there are 4 surgeons I'm not exactly sure who I will be having. I figure placing his name here is a good start. I've heard nothing but good things about the NH Program and hoping to get through things with little difficulty.

My name is Jennifer, I'm 34 - will be turning 35 in August.  I'm single and have no kids - however I do have a cat who is just like a kid to me.     I work in a steady paced ICU/Stepdown unit with just 7 beds as an LPN.  I love the challenges that come up on a daily basis, they keep me on my toes.

What a Long Road!
on October 18, 2009 2:57 am
It has been a challenge since I last posted here.  I entered into the Dartmouth Bariatric Program 8/1/08 and didn't have my first appt until 8/4/09.  Trying to accomplish everything they would like me to do to be prepared for surgery.  I have seen so many doctors that I have appts coming out of my ears.  I still have a few appts to go but have finally gotten the call to set up my second appt and my surgeon appt.  My next obstacle will be insurance - they require 10% weight loss prior to and I have been unable to accomplish this.  They may waive that requirement but I still need to lose weight so surgery will go better.

I keep plugging away and will accomplish my goals - just got to keep the faith and remember the goals I want to achieve.  TO BE HEALTHY!

Second appt. a Bust 6/9/08
on June 27, 2008 3:29 am

Well I was so excited to continue on with my journey and just as I was getting ready to leave for my appt I get a call from the office.  First they tell me that surgeon's mom died - apparantly was an ice breaker for the worst news.  My surgeon has officially resigned and will be leaving by Sept. 1st.  So now I'm going to have to start all over with another doc.  I have yet to hear back from the office to tell me what exactly they plan to do.  I'll be giving then until 7/1 then I'll call and figure out what's going on.

I have already researched Dartmouth Hospital's bariatric program.  It's alot more intense but I can do most stuff here at home with my primary doc.  So right now I'm in a holding pattern until I hear more.

Will keep everyone updated!

First Surgeon Appt. 5/12/08
on June 8, 2008 11:45 am
YAY!!!  I'm in the program, finally!!!  Only 5 months of waiting to actually go.  Passed Psych eval with flying colors, at least I think so :)   I met with the nutritionist and got all my materials for eating healthier and losing my 21 lb presurgery goal.  Surgeon was not available due to emergency surgery but I should be able to see her next time.  Next appt. 6/9/08.  Weight this visit 419 - the goal set is to lose at least 5 lbs per month before surgery.

Looking for friends to share in my journey -

My Story

As long as I can remember I have been overweight or as my BMI severly morbidly obese.  Even as a first grader I was the biggest in my class.  I was tall and wide.  My whole family save for just a few have also been big most of their lives.  When I was younger I was adopted by my grandmother since my mom had a few issues to deal with.  As the years went by I learned habits from her which weren't always good.  She died young - 68 - due to complications from Diabetes and Heart Disease.  My grandfather also died in his 50's from Heart Disease.  I'm only 34 and I'm so majorly at risk and in worse shape then they both were.  I want to become healthy.

Like everyone else I've tried everything out there.  All the special diets, pills, gizmo's, you name it.  It was always gung-ho at first and did well and then I would get bored or hungry or something life changing would happen and I would revert back to old habits.  I will not see 40 if I keep up this pace!!!

Back in January 2008 I saw endocrinology and was told "You will drop dead soon if you don't take care of this!"  Well talk about an eye opener.  He was quite blunt considering he'd never seen me before and it was the first thing out of him mouth.  Like any normal human being I  became very emotional and lost it.  I got very depressed for several days.  Then I started researching my options and WLS.  As per his recommendation I was referred to a WLS Surgeon in Burlington, VT.

As of May 12, 2008 I'm in the Bariatric Program!!!!  I'm hoping to have surgery sometime in Nov/Dec.  I will be having an Open Gastric Bypass because of my BMI and co-morbidities.
