Jill, prayers and positive thoughts going your way. May God be with you and guide your surgeon's hands as you embark on your journey tomorrow to good health. Remember to take those pre-op pictures and your measurements, you'll be glad you did. Hugs, Dana

On the way to the gym this morning the LeAnn Rimes song "One Way Ticket" came on. It pretty much summed up my journey so far.

Standing on the border, looking out onto the great unknown. I can feel my heart beating faster as I step out on my own. There's a new horizon and the promise of favorable wind
I'm heading out tonight, traveling light. I'm gonna start all over again.
And buy a one-way ticket on a west bound train
See how far I can go
I'm gonna go out dancing in the pouring rain
And talk to someone I don't know
I will face the world around me
Knowing that I'm strong enough to let you go
And I will fall in love again
Because I can

Gonna climb the mountain
And look the eagle in the eye
I won't let fear clip my wings and tell me how high I can fly
How could I have ever believed
That love could be so blind
When freedom was waiting, down at the station
All I had to do was make up my mind

Well, I have walked through the fire
And crawled on my knees through the valley of the shadow of doubt
Then the truth came shining like a light on me and now I can see my way out

I'm gonna buy a one-way ticket on a west bound train
Gonna have my breakfast with some pink champagne
I'm gonna sail the ocean, I'm gonna spread my wings
I'm gonna climb that mountain, gonna do everything.

Had my 3 mo doctor appt today. I've lost 60 lbs to date. I feel really good and have a ton more energy. I joined a gym last week and started working out doing water aerobics and weight lifting. I do this 3 times a week along with walking 3.5 miles 5 times a week. Hopefully I can keep this weight loss going! Tomorrow I will have to do blood work. Hopefully, everything will be normal. I am still having frustration with the amount I can eat. I am struggling because in my mind I want to eat more than I can. Hopefully in time this will get better~

Went for my 6 week app't today. I met with the nutrionist who went over what I have been eating/supplements. Originally I was scheduled for blood work but the doctor said he would do it a 3 months. Everything looks good. I've lost 41 lbs from my highest.

My Story

May 23, 2006

Initial Consult with Dr. Davidson. Watched power point presentation about surgery and then met with doctor. Intially thought I wanted Lab Band but after weighing pro and cons, felt like gastric bypass was better for me. More risks upfront but much better success. Weighed and measured me, took blood pressure. Was a little high (190/90 I was nervous!!!) so he referred me to Dr. Horton to check pressure.

May 24, 2006

Dr Horton. Checked blood pressure. Wasn’t too high (140/90) so she felt like medicine was unnecessary. Did physical including breast exam and EKG. Referred me to sleep apnea testing center, chest x-ray, and Stress test.

May 30, 2005

Blood work at Presby in Lab. Took 2 vials and urine. Bruised really badly

June 12, 2006

Dr Worrell. Physical, Chest X-ray and filled out 12 mo forms. Also did lung test.
Prescribed two blood pressure medicines. One Lotrel for blood pressure and one diuretic. Mentioned to me that Dr. Davidson was a great doctor so that made me feel good.

June 12, 2006

Patty from Lindcare came to my work and gave me Sleep apnea machine. Had to sleep with pulse/ox machine overnight. She came back and picked it up the next day.

June 19, 2006

Stress Echo at lab at Presby. Put on monitors and looked at heart by sonogram. Then put me on a treadmill. Cardiologist said everything looked good

June 19, 2006

Psych Eval w/ Pam Abernathy. She was very nice and we just talked about my issues with food.

Spoke with Chris Arrowsmith on phone and he said I needed to see a dietician.

July 7, 2006

Met w/ Julie Bender for dietician consultation. She was fantastic. We went over food I will be eating and what steps I need to take pre and post op.

July 17, 2006

Had to do a blood test again. Dr Horton wanted to re-check my iron levels. Waiting to hear from insurance.

July 18, 2006

Dr Horton called and said my iron levels were fine. I am relieved!

August 3, 2006

I am Approved!!!!!!! I am soo happy. I have to wait for the doctors office to get the insurance letter to schedule a date. Wow, good day!

August 9, 2006

Got my surgery date! September 11, 2006! Feeling very nervous and excited at the same time!

August 27, 2006

Started liquid diet (2-3 protein shakes ) + one lean cuisine type dinner today. I am soooooo hungry. This is the hardest thing! First of all the shakes taste terrible to me and I have never felt so hungry! I hope I can keep going with this but it is really hard!
The receptionist at Dr. Davidson's office keeps telling me that my surgery might be postponed if I can't lose weight. That would be a huge disappointment!

August 30, 2006

Met with Dr Davidson. Noticed that I gained 10 lbs since May. At first he told me he couldn't do the surgery but later he told me to come in on September 8th and weigh in. If I have lost weight, I can have the surgery on the 11th. We'll see............................

September 8, 2006

Went to Dr Davidson's for weight check. Lost 7 lbs. Cleared for surgery. That pre-op liquid diet was tough!

September 11, 2006

Well, the day is finally here. I have never been so emotional and scared in my life. Ready for this day to be over! I didn't sleep at all last night..im sure that is making it worse! See you on the other side!

September 12, 2006

I came home at 6pm. I am very sore and gassy. Also had breathing problems in the hospital. Using the breathing thing to open up my lungs. Everything went ok except I was in a lot pain. The nurses had me on a 4 hr schedule and couldnt or wouldnt deviate from that. It was very uncomfortable on my back. Did a lot of walking in the hospital. Really wanted to go home!

September 13, 2006

Very painful gas today. My stomach is making weird noises and I cant get the air out. Also very sore. My mom and I walked down the street. It was nice to get out. Hopefully the worst is over! Praise God for my recovery!!!!

September 23, 2006

Feeling much better. Slept all night in my bed. I was able to sleep on my side finally!!! Leaking from incision area. I ate refried beans and mashed potatoes today. Glad to eat a little "real" food!
