My Story

I WAS.......580lbs! (bmi 74.4!) I had type 2 diabetes, (two oral meds + 250u of insulin a day!) hypertension (150 over 90 most days W/meds!) walked(very short distances!) W/ a cane, (bad knees, hip, back) sleep apnea.  Pretty much miserable.....and in pain 24/7.   Soon to be disabled!
Had the VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy) on 9/1/09  at The Pacific Medical Center...at San Fransisco.  Had a pretty smooth operation (no complications)  post-op I  was in very little pain.......used the pain med  button once.......just to try it out!  Recovery was fast and worry free!
My surgeon was Dr. Paul Cirangle.  He is a very experienced, and highly skilled surgeon.(the best in my book!)  I feel lucky to have found him.....and so close to home!  There was NO program/surgeon in this area willing to take me on as a VERY high risk patient.   Dr. C said......"no problem.......I WILL help you!"  After a 2 year search and being told "no" or "lose 150-180 lbs"  I had found my  "solution" in.........Dr. C.
I have  "lost"............ALL my meds, my cane, my chronic pain, my debilitating fatigue, my deep depression, and (most importantly)......... my despair.  Oh!  and a "shitload" of weight too! ( at this time....2.5 years  post-op......I have lost 350 lbs!......I'm less than half the man I used to be........literally)  I lost a little over 250lbs....in the first year!  Ther rest came off slowly the following year or so.......I have been maintaining for more than 6 months now.  I have a comfort zone of about 5lbs....I stay within.......anytime I go over.......it is back to basics! (<40 carbs...tons of protein and water)
I have "gained"........ my health,  my mobility (I can walk for miles....and work out at the gym now!) ),    my vitality/energy,  my self-confidence/esteem,  my "zest" for life,  and....most important......my "hope"  for a new life/future.
This has been a long,  wild, and amazing journey........ I am happy and grateful to be here now. This WAS the BEST thing I have ever done for myself........it was LIFE changing for me.  I have ABSOLUTELY......zero regrets........except that I did not do this SOONER!!!
Feel free to PM me or post any questions you may have I am very open/honest about my journey and experiences.   Thanks for reading this.......and good luck to you....... no matter where you are  in this "journey".
