A brief WLS Update
on December 22, 2007 7:30 am
I just wanted to update because I haven't done so in a few months.

I had RNY on 2-23-07 with a starting weight of 197lbs., borderline diabetes, high blood pressure and sky high cholesterol even on medication. I was wearing a size 18 jean when I came home from the hospital.

Today I weigh 107lbs. and I am wearing a size 2 pant and xs tops.  I am astounded by my success, my docs set a goal of 120 and I have by far passed that goal. My labs are all within normal limits and I look and feel better than I have in years!  I did have a slight setback in August when I had an internal Peterson's hernia repair and my gallbladder out, but have been fine since.

I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year! Thanks for all the support this last year!

I am now almost 7 months post -op. Starting weight was 197lbs. and wearing a size 18 jeans. Today I weigh 115lbs, and wear a size 2-4 jeans. I am completely astounded by the results!!!! I fell great, physically as well as emotionally. My blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure are all normal now! I am just so grateful to have had this surgery and been able to have such a life change!

Just a brief update!!!!!
on July 24, 2007 12:44 pm
I thought I would give a brief update since I had my 5 month f-up appt today. To date I have lost 70lbs and am doing very well. I went from 197lbs and a size 18 jean to 127lbs and wearing a size 6 jean!!! I could not be better, physically and mentally. I will be having labs done tomorrow to see how my sugar and cholesterol are doing too. I was so happy to go to the doctor today and have my BP taken with a regular cuff, I know this sounds ridiculous, but it just made my day. It is so great to be able to walk into any store and buy regular, trendy clothes! I am just so grateful to have been given this opportunity, it was by far the best decision I ever made, for myself and my family!!!

update!!!!
on June 12, 2007 1:56 pm
I haven't updated in a while, so here goes. I had my surgery on 2-23-07 and have lost exactly 60lbs so far, I know this because I had a follow-up today with my surgeon. I am extremely pleased with my results so far and so is he. I was 197lbs when I started this program wearing a size 18. Today I weigh 137lbs and wear a size 8-10. I haven't felt this good physically or mentally in years. Any doubts I had about having this procedure are a blur in the past, I know now that this was the best decision for me and my family. Everyone at OH has been very supportive and helpful, I really appreciate it all! I will update next month, I will be seeing my nutritionist then!

An update!
on May 8, 2007 12:38 pm
I haven't updated in a while, so here goes. I had my RNY on 2-23-07 and am down almost 50lbs. since then. When I came home from the hospital, my jeans were a size 18, now they are a 10. I haven't been this small since way before having children. I am so happy with the results so far, I feel like I've been given a second chance. I feel much better physically, but more than that I am feeling better about myself, not embarassed to be seen in public anymore. Not embarassed for my kids to be seen with me. I actually look forward to getting on the scale everyday to see what's going to happen. Sometimes it good, sometimes it not, but it is all better than before 2-23-07.

My Story

My name is Jodi, I am 36 years old, married, three kids. I'm not really your typical wls candidate, I am 5ft tall, starting weight was 197. Now down to 183, with a surgery date of Feb 16, 2007.  I am having the procedure not because of vanity, but because I have a history of gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy and now have Insulin Resistance Syndrome, borderline hypertension, and am already on cholesterol meds. My entire family is overweight and has health issues.  It's hard for people to understand why someone who weighs less than 200 lbs wants to have this done, but I am doing it for my family, so my kids have a mom for a really long time, and so I can keep up with and enjoy my kids.  Plus there does come a point in your life, when you're tired of being the frumpy mother!  People who have never had a weight problem don't understand that in today's society if you are fat, you may as well be invisible!  Wish me luck with my surgery in seven weeks, I feel like when I wake up in recovery, I will be like a newborn baby on my birthday!
