Surgeon Testimonial

Richard Symmonds, M.D.
My first impression was he was very straight forward & willing to take the time to answer any questions or concerns I was having. My first impression never changed it was just reiterated the more I met with him he was very plesent & took the time to speek with me about any concerns I was having. There was nothing I did not like about him. Future patients should know that they should feel they can be comfortable discussing any questions or concerns you may have. He puts great emphasis on after-care exspecially makeing sure to get all your water & walking in. He made sure all the risks of the surgery were made clear to me & was the to answer any questions or concerns I had. I would rate him overall one of the best surgons to have I was very blessed that he performed my surgery. He had great surgical competence & a wonderful beside manner. I had no reserves going under the knife knowing he was my surgeron.

Had a little set back
on June 6, 2007 6:11 pm
I have been having pain & a hard time keeping things down for a while & after a trip to the er on sat & a follow up with the dr on mon which led to being addmited to the hospital till today I belive I can start getting back on track I was told I had whats called a stricture & they had to put an endoscope with balloon down my thoat down to where the stricture is & open it up. So they did the procedure yesterday & gave me iv fluids because I was dehidrating. so we'll see if that helps. but otherwise I am doing ok & I hope everyone else is doing well to.

2 & a half wks Post op
on May 19, 2007 6:20 am
Hello Everyone, Just wanted to touch base. I am now 2 & a half wks out of surgery. I am losing weight quicker than I expected to which I am totaly elated over. I am now down to 184, Yipee. The recovery is a little tougher than I expected though. I get sharp stabing pain in my cheast when ever I eat or drink my water, (I constainly feel thursty )& my stomach still is quiet painful & although my nurse said this is all normal I still find it difficult to deal with. I have also been suffering from nausea & loose bowels. I was just wondering if anyone else went through or is experiancing the same things? How long will this last & are there  ways do help the way I feel? I have been following what my nurse tells me but I still feel icky. I hope this feeling will ease up soon. Also my hubby said sit ups & stomach crunches will help prevent the loose skin issue. Has anyone heard of this? Does it work & how long after surgery do I have to wait till I can start with those type of exercise? Thank's & talk to you all soon. Jen

Thanks for the response
on May 10, 2007 8:12 am
I just wanted to thank everyone that answered my question & let everyone know I did talk to my nurse practitioner & she said the pain I was feeling was normal. So thank you all for your respondes & concern. I am still hurting & my nurse said I will be for a while. I am also very tired all the time & get worn out easily but I assume that is normal with the surgery as well. Well talk to you all soon. Jen

My Story

My name is Jen I'm 26 yrs old, I've been struggling with my weight since I was around 17 yrs old. When I got pregnant with my first child I started gaining weight & just went downhill from there. I feel that I have tried every diet there is to try & although some of them worked for a short time I always gained the weight back & useally more. I suffer from depression & anxiety & I feel that being on the medicine to help with that contributed to my weight gain as that was one of the side effects of the medication. I also have severe back problems & pain from a car accedent in April of 2000. The back pain & problems still plauge me today as if it happened yesterday, which I feel will always be the case. That combined with asthma which I have suffered from most of my life has caused my weight to sky rocket out of control. I have been interested in the Gastric Bypass procedure since I had seen a show about it with before & after stories of people who have had it done. It was after that show that I started to seriously research & consider this as an option for me. I have web surfed, read & watched as much information as I could find on this procedure, weighing all the benifites & risks & I trully feel that this could be the one tool that will turn my life around. I know that this is a life changing surgery that requires all of my commitment & determination & I look forward to finally getting the life I so desperatly need & want. I know that this surgery will not take away the asthma, depression, anxiety, joint pain & back pain & problems but I feel that it will aleviate them to the point where I can finally be the wife & mother my family needs me to be & I can participate & enjoy my life & family instead of just watching my life from the side lines. Where I can actually join my kids when they play rather then telling to "go on & mommy will watch."  I am so excited to be able to have this surgery & I look forward to be able to have the life I've always dreamed of but could never quite reach & to be able to share my journey & to give & recive the support from all of you. Thank you.
