6 Weeks Postop
on September 11, 2012 6:18 pm
Today is officially 6 weeks post op and I'm starting to feel a little better.  Last week I ended up in the hospital AGAIN, very dehydrated and not able to keep anything down.  After a slew of tests, they determined it is severe acid reflux and put me back on prilosec once a day and Zantac twice a day.  Hoping to GOD this works because I am SICK of being back there.

Other than the small complications, I'm feeling really good.  Eating is certainly not appealing but I force feed myself to get the calories in.  Protein is also difficult - can't find a protein powder I like.  I recently received some great suggestions from those in the RNY forum, so I'm going to give that a try.

As for my weight, they weighed me last Monday (one day shy of 5 weeks post op) and I was at 216, which is 43 lbs down post op and 60 lbs total.  I weighed myself tonight and I'm at 208.  I can't even fathom getting below 200.  Just blows my mind.   Many people have already commented on how different I look.  I see it a little, but not much.  I'm told it is pretty normal to see yourself as that fat person all the time.  I know I've dropped weight, but psychologically, I think I'm still that 276 lb girl.

I plan on posting pics in 2 weeks.  Until then!

4 Weeks Postop
on August 28, 2012 11:51 am
Today marks 4 weeks since my surgery.  Things are starting to get easier but I hit a hurdle about 2 weeks ago that was rough.  Wasn't feeling well, ended up in the hospital with low potassium and high pancreas enzymes.  They kept me for 5 days, which seemed like an eternity.  Thankfully it was nothing I did.  I was scared I did something wrong but was reassured by the doctor that my pancreas just was having some difficulties and the low potassium was due to not having eaten prior to getting to the hospital because I wasn't feeling well.  At that point I was on pureed food.

Now I'm on soft food and it's going pretty well.  I'm finding I have to force myself to eat.  I'm never hungry.  Even fluid is hard to get down!  Nothing even really sounds good to eat.  I'm scared to eat in fear of causing a blockage or something.  But, when I do eat, I chew the hell out of it and take small bites.

Had an appointment yesterday and I am officially down 50 lbs since June 26th.  That's 33 lbs post op.  I knew it was going to happen, but I still don't think I believe it!!!  I didn't realize the change until I put my before and after pictures side by side.  NOW I see a difference.  Just wish eating would get easier sooner.  I know it will eventually, and I am constantly reminded it DOES get easier.  Just wish it was now LOL.  Me being the inpatient one, of course.  In time.  More later :-)

1 Week Post Op
on August 7, 2012 9:48 am
One week ago I had my surgery and man have I come a long way already!  Had my first post op appt yesterday and am down 12 lbs since surgery - a total of 29 lbs since I started my journey on June 26th.

I started my full liquid diet yesterday.   It's going okay.  They want me to drink 8 oz of milk 3 times a day, each within an hour, which is about 2 oz every 15 min.  It's SO hard.  I get so full.  In addition to that, I'm drinking my water.  They also want me to have cream of wheat or something of the like in the morning, yogurt or something similar in the afternoon, and soup with no chunks for dinner.  I never thought it would be this difficult to get everything in.  I'm really struggling and it's quite discouraging.  Hoping it starts to get easier.

Day 5 Post-Op
on August 5, 2012 3:43 pm
Well it's been 5 days since surgery and I have unofficially lost 16 lbs.  That makes a total of 33 lbs since June 26th when I began my journey at my very first doctor appointment.  It's been quite a ride.  Today has probably been my best day other than being very tired.  I tend to overexert myself, causing the tiredness, so it's really my fault.

Tomorrow is my "week" post-op appointment and I hopefully am being put on FULL liquids.  I am sick of clear liquids and am really ready for a protein shake.  Jello and Broth aren't even appealing to me anymore and even trying to eat them makes me naseaus.  Even popsicles sound horrible.

Well it's time to shut down - I need to rest and get ready for the week ahead.

Liquid Diet: Day 1
on July 21, 2012 6:36 pm
My surgery date has been set for July 31st!  Today is day one of the liquid diet and it has been VERY difficult.  I have to admit I caved and had a small bowl of cereal and a mini-muffin.  But other than that, it's been protein shakes and clear liquids.  I think as the days go on it will get easier as my stomach shrinks.  It also seems to be easier with the excitement of surgery.  Hoping for a better day tomorrow!
