Hello. My name is Jo Ellen and I live in Lenexa, Kansas (suburb of Kansas City)
I have 2 "grown" children, Kristi 21 and Jake 20.  Kristi and her husband Dan live with me and they are expecting their first child on 3/7/07.  Jake is a sophmore at KU (Kansas University in Lawrence... go Jayhawks)

I'm widowed (5 years now), currently unemployed (1 year now) and enjoying life everyday. I chose to have Lap Band surgery last summer when my doctor told me that if I didn't lose weight within 3 months I would be on insulin. I'm a type 2 diabetic and really didn't want to go on insulin.  I've tried Weight Watchers and a variety of other diets but haven't been successful in the long run.  As a kid and young adult I never had weight problems. I was active and played basketball at the University of Hawaii.  Once I had children and my lifestyle changed I put on the pounds.    My pre-surgery weight was 245 lbs and I'm 5' 10"

My surgery went well and within 6 weeks I lost about 25 lbs and my AC1 was so great that I got off of my diabetic medicines.
