Ok, now I have completed everything.  I am waiting on the paper clearance from the psych.  I am excited.  Although, I do wish I attended Atl Medical's Nutritionist.  Stacy was off the chain.  She knew exactly what she was talking about and I got a lot of great advice.

Just to let everyone know.  I have a guardian angel, her name is PAT128...
I wanted to thank God for all she has done to support me through this journey...

THANKS PAT128.  I LOVE YA!

WILL SEE YOU ON THE LOOSERS BENCH ONCE EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE!

JUST A LITTLE INFO TO ALL NEWBIES INTERESTED IN DR DUNCANS OFF.
on June 14, 2007 10:43 pm

You need a referral from your PCP and a medical necessity letter from them as well.  They also require a 6mth diet history on PCP letter head.  They also want a physical and med history from the PCP.

Next step:  Cardiologyst clearance: EKG, Echocardiogram and then the Cardiologyst will determine if the Stress test is needed and schedule accordingly

Pulmologyst: You will take a blood ox, blood gas if needed and blow into the tube.  You will also answer a questionaire to determine if a sleep study is needed for sleep apnea,  if needed they will schedule

Nutrition and Dietition:  You can schedule with Dr Duncans nutr.,Stacy.  Candy and I went to Holly Dobson at Dekalb Medical.  Peachstate covered it.  I wish I would have paid the $100.00 out of pocket and went to Stacy instead.  I met her at the support meeting Tuesday and she was great.  I learned a lot!

Psych Clearance:  There is a psyc in Gwinnett County that takes Peachstate.  This was a hard one to find.  A lot of the Drs that take Peachstate/ Medicaid try to charge for the clearance and this should be part of the actual visit: (Comprehensive report)  Make sure the psych states cleared for surgery.

You need to attend 1 seminar and 1 support group meeting... You will also need a full length picture of yourself 3x5....

Oh, before i forget the Dr PCP will complete a panel of blood work... Make sure the H pylori is included in that!

You can start obtaining your clearances before the seminar.  This will move things faster.
I started on my clearances on May 10th and now have all but the comprehensive report from the psych.  She told me about a week or 2.

Ok, I have gone through it all.  I am just waiting on the actual paper clearance from the Psych.  It has been a short but long journey.  All I need to do now is complete my diet history and go to a support group meeting.  I should be able to turn everything in to Dr Duncans office this week.

I ask all to please pray for me as my journey is just starting.  Thanks to everyone's support.  I hope to see you all on the loosers bench real soon!

Love Ya'll!

Well, I went to the Pulmologyst (hope I spelled it correctly).
Got my clearance.  No sleep study, nothing!
Things are going so well, I am scared that something might go wrong during the approval process.

Well, all I can do is leave it to the one above me.

I will have my Diet and Nutrition on Thursday May 24th and then my psych on June 5th.... WLS here I come!

Thank you Lord Jesus!

May 17, 2007 Great News!
on May 17, 2007 7:37 pm

I have been doing this since May 10th... Getting Dr appts and all set up.  If it was not for my guardian angel Pat128, I do not think I would be this far.

I went to my PCP, Dr Corley on May 10th.  I was referred to a Cardiologist and blood tests.  I got my blodd test results on Monday, May 14th.  All checked out to be great: my cholesterol was 153! WOW!!!!!   On May 15th I went to the Cardiologyst.  I received my first clearance.  I have not felt this happy in a long time.

I have an appointment set up with the pulmologyst and nutritionist next week.  Hopefully all goes well... just waiting to find a psychiatrist that takes Peachstate Medicaid!

God has blessed me more than anyone could ever know.

Bendito el que viene en el nombre de señor!

My Story

I am 28 years old.  I weigh 494lbs.

I have battled the bulge since I was a child.  When I was about 18, I wanted to go into the military.  I took the ASVAB.  I was told to get down on my weight.  I did just that, but could not get rid of it all.  I got involve with my now husband.  I started gaining large increments of weight. I went from 180- 274 by the time I gave birth to my one and only child Errik.

For years I have dealt with this issue. We have gone to the dietition, changed our eating habits, and we are still obese.  My son weighs 208 lbs at the age of 9.

Back in November I became ill.  I had infected cellulitous and was put on IV antibiotics.  I missed about a month of work and when I was released by the Dr to go back I came down with Bells Palsy. (A virus that enters I believe it is called the 7th cranial nerve system and paralyzes the facial muscles)  It effected my right eye and I had to continue to go to my infectious disease Dr., PCP, and Optometrist.  At the same time management at worked changed and I loss my job. Along with that my health insurance. Therefore, I applied for medicaid and was granted.

I was refered to bariatrics by my PCP before hand, but never took action.  I was so scared.  I saw a documentary about a severly obsese woman.  She was young and beautiful.  She had not other choice than death itself.  She went for the surgery and the results were remarkable.  If it was not for her initiative, I do not think I would persue this!

I am now looking for a "fat friendly PCP" who will assist me in fighting this life long battle.  Along with that, I am looking for a Surgeon to assist me as well.  The only thing is, they have to accept medicaid.  I want to use this as a measure to renew the life that was stolen from me and my family. I do not want my weight to hold me prisoner any longer.

Anyone's comments and advise are always appreciated.

I ask God to strengthen me on this life long journey and to guide me along the right path so I may also see the light: Amen!
