Spoke Too Soon...But Doing Better
on August 2, 2008 7:27 am
The first month was a breeze....until I started having severe muscle soreness and sharp pains in my largest incision. There were mornings I couldn't get out of the bed. I either had to be standing up or not quite flat of my back. My incision was pulled so tight internally, that it caved in. I could lose my first 2 knuckles in it. Now I can almost bend over to pick something up off the floor without tears welling up in my eyes, and only get an an ccasional sharp pain in my side. Nothing that I can't bear now. The incision is not near as caved in as it was 3 weeks ago either.

I still think it's  all worth it, and I would do it again tomorrow if I had  to!

1 month anniversary!
on July 18, 2008 1:37 pm
One month out...no problems...and 36 pounds lighter. My surgery happened on the 11th of June instead of the 16th, and everything went well. I'll add more pictures soon!

APPROVED!!!!
on May 18, 2008 9:19 am
Approved!!!! On May 16th, I got the phone call for approval. I will see a nutritionist on the 22nd to go over post-op care and what my meals will consist of. Tenatively scheduled a date for May 28th, but that will change. I have to give my employer 30 days notice, so it will probably take place mid-June!

Still Waiting
on April 20, 2008 10:24 am
Still waiting on approval. I wondered what was taking so long, so I called the surgeon's office. They never received my 6 month diet history from my OB/GYN.....I confirmed receipt of it on Friday, so hopefully it won't be much longer.....

Still got my fingers crossed!!!!

All Requirements Complete
on March 6, 2008 8:58 pm
All of the requirements are complete now. The psych evaluation, cardio evaluation, pulmonary evaluation, and had my OB/GYN write a letter detailing my weight loss attempts, methods, successes and failures in the past two years. Now all I have to do is wait and keep my fingers crossed.

My Story

January 14,2008 is my first appointment with Dr. Shimer. I have contacted my insurance provider, and the procedure is a covered benefit if deemed medically necessary. My OB/GYN wrote a letter of medical necessity that will also act as a referral letter for me to bring to my first appointment. My decision to take this step has come with lots of thought and lots of failed attempts to lose weight on my own. So I am making this choice as a decision of last resort. I wanted to exhaust all other option before I made such a life altering change, and all other options have been exhausted. I am looking forward to making things better for myself and my family. They have struggled with me for many years and I can no longer put them through my dissatisfaction with my self because it makes them unhappy and hurts us all.
