Hello. My name is Jen. I am 35 years old. I currently weigh 339 lbs. and I am only 5'2". I wasn't overweight my whole life. It began with puberty. When I was 12 and in 7th grade, I started having comments made to me by friends and family. I'm sure they meant no harm, but that's where it all started. I started becoming very self conscious which is normal at that age anyway. At this point I was still quite active. Very active actually. I rode my bike all the time, played racquetball and went jogging with my dad, and was even on the filed-hockey team at school. It was at this point that the dieting roller coaster began. At this point I was 12, 5'1" and 145 lbs. I started with the slim fast diet which was just becoming quite popular (1985). I was very happy with my results! I lost 30lbs. in 30 days. Looking back. I now see that was just the beginning of the yo-yoing that would continue for more than 20 years. I went up and down many many times. Each time gaining more weight than I lost. At 21, when I met my now ex-husband, I weighed 180 lbs. Technically overweight. yes, but I was happy and healthy. Shortly after we were together I passed the dreaded 200 lb. mark. Then I had two kids within two years and put on lots of weight with both. My first baby way a preemie, weighing only 5lbs. I gained 67! 17 Months later I had my son and added more baby-weight onto the weight I never lost from my daughter. Over the course of my unhappy marriage I managed to to my all-time high of 360lbs. I have made back to 325, but never lower. With lapband and a lot of work, I hope to get back to a healthy active lifestyle!

I had my surgery 2 days ago and I feel great. I went shopping for a couple of hours today without a problem. I love my team of doctors. They are all so nice and treated me like i was the only patient they had. I was planning on getting my fills in the states but now I definately want to come back here. It's worth paying more...no doubt! this blog is short and sweet because I already wrote all the details in my myspace blog. Sorry. Feel free to check it out. I am so psyched to be starting this new journey! More to come...

Vamo A Mexico....
on July 29, 2007 7:03 am
[posted 7/8/07 on myspace to people who don't understand!] Well, I know lots of people think I am crazy, but I really don't care. for those of you who don't know yet - I am going to Mexico to have lap-band surgery. Why? Well, let's start off with I am tired of being morbidly obese. I am tired of the way I am treated and looked at, and thought of because of my size. Fat discrimination sucks and it happens all the time. my main problem with the fat discrimination thing is work. I feel that that was the main reason behind me losing the job of my dreams. Also I want to be healthier. Work out you say? No shit! why don't you put on a 150lb. vest and see how much you are able to work out! Seriously. Try it! Anyone who thinks I still will not have to "work at it" is not only mistaken, but completely ignorant to what I have done and will need to do to ensure I am healthier overall. Next question. Why Mexico? the conclusion most people jump to is that it's because it's cheaper. Yes, it is. However, I am too smart to make such a huge decision like this, just because "it's cheaper". I have done a lot of research! I have selected the man whom I feel is the most qualified - in the world! I chose a surgeon who trained the best U.S. Drs. I chose someone who has trained other bariatric surgeons all over the globe. He is on boars of many professional organizations, and universities. His facility was utilized by the United Nations. He also has been doing this type of surgery 4x's as many years as ANY US doctor! There's more, but I think I have made my point. My surgery date is July 31st!!! More to come.... [posted on myspace 7/225/07] Well life is falling back into place. My surgery is only 9 days away now. I can't wait. I actually was contacted by a lady from Iowa who will be having surery with the same Dr. on the same day. She has invited me to go sight-seeing with her and her husband. They have both been to Mexico several times so they know how things are done. Plus her husband is completely fluent in Spanish. I also bought Myself a VW Beetle. So cute! And it's diesel so better for the environment. I will be driving it on Biodiesel once I have a chance to make sure all the hoses and filters are ready for that. Now that I am single again, I can focus on me and how I want to live. And right now life is great! I am living in a beautiful area, have an awesome Eco-friendly car, going for my surgery, and the icing on the cake will be getting a good job. [myspace 7/28/07] Dos Dias! For the gringos, that means two days! Yikes! It always amazes me how quickly time can pass. So, anyway, it's only two more days untill I leave for Mexico. I am stoked! I guess I am a little nervous in a good way. Kind of like a teen going to her first dance. My flight leaves out of Asheville @ 8am and I'll arrive in Monterrey Mexico by noon. At the airport, my driver will be waiting for me with a sign with my name on it! How cool. I have always wanted that! Then I will be taken to the cardiologist for my pre-op appt. I'll have an EKG, ultrasound, and a battery of blood tests. Next I get brought back to the hotel {The Hampton Galeria). At the desk there will be a fax waiting for me from my surgeon, Dr. Rumbaut. It will advise me that I have an appt. with him that same day and at what time. So then I go Meet Dr. Rumbaut and the surgical team. He will review my tests and answer any questions I may have. Then back to the hotel. At 5pm I'll meet my surgery buddy. She's also from the U.S. Tuesday is the big day. Our driver will pick us up at 8am and bring us to the hospital for surgery. The next day after 'passing inspection', I will be released back to the hotel, where my Dr will continue to check on me. Thursday is my free day and I plan on going sightseeing with my surgery buddy and her husband (if we're up to it). Friday I come home and begin a new chapter of my life! No need to wish me luck because everything is going to go super smooth! Hasta Luego!
