I am 56, a married mother of two grown children. After being obese since my first pregnancy, and yo-yoing as much as 100 lbs at a time, my doc finally said "Cease and desist." So at 469 lbs, I had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on March 12, 2009. I had trouble with the anesthesia (really the anesthesiologist!) and then got an infection that kicked in my diverticulitis. After 11 weeks, my body finally recovered to the point of beginning to loose weight consistently, though not quickly. I am currently going to an alternative doctor who is checking my hormone levels and food allergies (which he is certain I have). He says once he finds them, he can get ALLthe excess weight off, "in spite of the surgery". I know my hormones have been whack for some time...I had a hysterectomy at age 35 from necessity, and my daughter has since been diagnosed with PCOS, which is hereditary. I believe our bodies are complicated chemistry sets, and that what works for one will not necessarily work for another. As a Christian, I am glad for my surgery, no matter why else, because I am free of the idol of food. Only the truely obese can understand that statement. I am on a journey to regain my health. To date, 3 months out, I've lost 76 lbs, and am no longer taking blood pressure medications, though I do take a new one to control stomach acids.
Six months out. Down 115 lbs. Feeling much better since I started taking Vit B12 sub-lingual. Much more active in my daily life.
