I'm a 40 year old married female with two stepsons whom I adore.  I love the outdoors and animals.  I am interested in art and music.  I plan to learn to play the piano this year coming up-has been a life-long dream.  I have a dry sense of humor.  I have no tolerance for bigots/rascists or religious debate.  I say "Live and let live."

My Story

I have had a twisted view of food since the age of 7 when I started gymnastics.  My coach repeatedly told my mother and I that I was fat.  It took me years to be able to look at photos from that time and to realize that I was not overweight.  As soon as puberty started my weight went up and down about 10 pounds.  I felt like a whale.  I slimmed down in my late teens but the weight started to creep up in my early 20s.  I believe this is when the PCOS started to become problematic.  I then gained approx. 10 pounds a year. I did every diet imaginable.  At one time I was eating 1000 calories a day and walking 4 miles a day.  I lost 4 pounds in a month.  I also have hypothyroidism.  I can't blame my medical problems for my weight gain because I did overeat.  But I do think my health issues contributed.  I also became a vegetarian for two years in my early 20s and gained 40 pounds.  I ate lots of carbs because I didn't know how to eat a healthy vegetarian diet.  By my late 20s I gave up.  I have been existing, not living for the past 20 years because of my food issues.  I have been to therapy and feel I have a grip on most of my issues but I will always struggle with food.  I'm grateful that it's not heroin because I'd probably be dead.  I have been researching weight loss surgery for the past five years (with terror).  I finally made the decision in the fall of 2008 when my mobility became affected.  I can no longer exercise and can stand for only a few minutes.  I had decided on the RNY when I learned about the VSG and changed my mind after researching the differences.  I am so grateful that my insurance has agreed to pay- I was certain I would have to pay for it.  I am scheduled for my surgery on October 5, 2009.  I am nervous but am looking forward to getting it over with and starting the work.
