Surgeon TestimonialAndrew G.HargroderI first met Dr. Hargroder in his conference room with about 40 other people. He talked to all of us at the same time to explain the different types of weight loss surgery and the risks and advantages of each one. He was very patient and answered all our questions.
Since that day, the only time I have seen him is the day of surgery and the day of release from the hospital. Otherwise, I have only seen his PA, Holly. She is very nice and knowledgeable but I PAID to see the Doctor.
Dr. Hargroder's staff are all very nice, but a bit scattered and unorganized. They recently had to move to a new building and hospital, but even before that, they were same way.
They didn't right my name down on the appointment register for my first post-op visit. The doctor was already gone and so was most of the staff. We had to contact Holly and ask her to come back to the office to see me since I had traveled 40 miles to go for my post-op visit.
There is a support group every week for Dr. Hargroder and Dr. Bellanger's patients. It is very informative and you get good support from others who have had weight loss surgery.
There really is not a structured aftercare program. If I did not follow up myself, I believe I would NOT be contacted by anyone in his office.
I think Dr. Hargroder is an excellent surgeon, and he has a great bedside manner. However, he has his hands in too many endeavors to give good individualized attention to his patients and his staff is ultimately just as busy. I believe he needs to slow down and smell the roses so to speak.
I will say that if you INSIST on seeing Dr. Hargroder rather than his PA, you will see him.
Overall, mine has been a good experience, but I have had to follow up on things myself to make sure everything that needs to be done is done.

10 months now on August 12, 2008 5:34 pm
As of 8/11/08, I am 10 months post surgery and down 93 pounds. My average monthly weight loss has slowed way down, but I am not really worried about that. I have to admit, I have been eating more carbs and I am sure that is the reason for the slowed loss. We are going on vacation in a couple of weeks, and when we get back, I think I will do the liquid diet for a couple of days again and see if I can kick start myself again. Or, maybe I will just kick myself! :)

Over 80#s now on May 20, 2008 12:51 pm
I am not going to bore you with a lot of details except for one! I have lost 83#s in 7 1/2 months! I am able to move easier, sit in booths, step between people without knocking them down! Yeah, I feel good!

Still going and going and going.... on March 8, 2008 7:32 pm
It's sort of like the Energizer bunny....the weight keeps going and going and going. :-) At my last post, I had lost 65#s and was big time stalled. Since then I have lost 6 more pounds and am at 71#s now. Yahoo! This is really exciting. My biggest problem right now is finding clothes. I used to know exactly what size to buy without trying them on at the store. Now I don't know. They are either too big or too small (just a little snug) when I get home. If they are too big, I take them back, if they are too small, I just keep them, because one day I will get in them. It will be pretty soon probably. My weight loss has slowed down, but that's ok, because my body needs to catch up with itself. My hubby looks at me every few days and says "you are getting skinnier." That's nice to hear.

My Story Hello everyone, I am Cindy, 55 yrs old and weighing currently 296 pounds. The heaviest I ever got (that I know of) is 307 lbs. I have not been heavy all my life, as a matter of fact, I was always on the skinny side until about 16 years ago. I quit smoking and changed jobs to a more 'sit at the computer' type of job and immediately started gaining weight. I developed arthritis and couldn't do the things I used to do anymore and gained more weight. I love food, I must admit.
I had an appointment on 8/29/07 with the surgeon and he has my surgery (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) scheduled for October 11, 2007. Yahooooo! My PCP thinks it's a great idea and is backing me 100%. My insurance won't pay, so I have to pay cash price for this, but to me it's worth it.
I am hoping for grandchildren in the near future and want to be able to play with them and not have to say, no grandma can't walk or grandma can't play ball, etc. Currently, I can't stand up very long because of back pain, or walk very far for the same reason. I am miserable and I want to feel better.
Wish me luck!
