Hi, I'm Amy.  I am 27-year-old medical secretary and I live in Stratford with my dog Elmo and my parrot Kacy.  I have been obese my whole life and as a teenager I would look into the mirror and think I wasn't "that big" even though I was in the high 200's.  I look back now and think I probably had a reverse psychological image of myself like those skinny girls who think they are "fat".  I have looked into the Lap-Band for over a year and after having been in denial for years, I have finally accepted that I have a food addiction and have booked my surgery for February 2009.  Wish me luck!

Dear Food,
I am breaking up with you.  You have been controlling my life for too long.  It is time that I take back my freedom!  Our relationship is OVER!

So today is the last day I can eat and I am surprisingly freakishly calm.  Shouldn't I be having an anxiety attack right about now?!?!  I have 14 hours, 8 minutes left until my Optifast stage starts.  The next few weeks are going to be rough--no food, no caffeine!  It is going to be worth it in the end though.  I have to remember to keep my mind set to the good things that will come out of this, that my surgery will be so much safer and shorten my recovery time.

4 Weeks, 2 days and things are really happening now.  Today I saw my family doctor for my pre-op.  He had no clue that I was having the Lap-Band and looked like a deer in headlights.  Jaw hit the floor and everything. Overall I think he is okay with it.  He was shocked at the price and thought getting rid of excess skin should be included!  Tomorrow I go for my Pre-Admit testing and my last appointment before the big day.

So I had my appointment with the Psychologist yesterday.  I was so worried because we had a massive snow storm on Friday but I made it there.  I was a little disappointed because the appointment was only 8 minutes long (no kidding...went it at 9:10 and was back in my car at 9:20!) .  It was so easy...no thinking involved, just where do you live, what do you do, etc. etc.  There is only 7 weeks, 5 days until my surgery!  Hopefully I will make it through the holidays without gaining too much more weight.  I have had 3 Christmas celebrations already and I think I have gained 5 lb. which isn't too bad since I have had a bad attitude the past week or so thinking "this is the last Christmas I get to really eat" and have been stuffing my face.  Since I am storm stayed at home today I decided to do something productive and went through my closet and dresser and tossed some clothes and organized the rest.  Can you believe I have 32 pair of undies in 4 sizes?  lol  So I divided things up by sizes and put them in boxes so that when I am down a size, I can easily find the clothes.

Today I have to make my down payment on my surgery and have my first pre-op appointment with my  NUT.  Today I feel like "this is actually friggen happening!!!!" and I am a little nervous and excited at the same time to learn how my diet will change after my surgery.  TODAY IS DEFINATELY THE NEXT DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE!  I have enlisted my cousin to come with me (one of the only people who knows I am having surgery) for the ride so I have someone to tell everything to on the way home.

Here I am with 9 weeks, 2 days left until my surgery and I am becoming obsessed.  All I can think about is the surgery and how it can't come soon enough.  I booked it in February because I thought it would be easier since we would be over Christmas and family get-togethers that fall with holidays and I don't want to explain to everyone why I'm on a liquid diet, etc., etc.  I am worried that the next 9 weeks will take forever.
