Surgeon Testimonial

Ward, Dunnican
Dr. Dunnican was AMAZING. Besides being young and incredibly handsome (stared in a few fun dreams of mine... But I digress). He is extremely kind and thorough. My very first visit with him he answered every single one of my questions, plus more I didn't even know I had. By my 2nd and 3rd appointments I had every confidence that Dr. Dunnican would be an amazing surgeon, and had absolutely no doubts about him. He was alway apologetic if I had to wait long to see him, and was always very warm and sincere. My surgery went well. He said I had an initial leak that he fixed right up before closing me up, so I'm not worried at all. He came to my room to see me everyday with the exception of my discharge day ... But, he forewarned me that he wouldn't be around until later that day (if I was still in the hospital) so I wasn't concerned.
Dr. Dunnican was very gentle while checking my incisions post op. The EXACT opposite of one of the other Dr.s that came in and put an unnecessary and painful amount of pressure on one of my incision sites the day after surgery (uncool nameless Dr guy).
All in all, I am fully pleased with Dr. Dunnicans care and excellent work. I look forward to my post op appointments with him. And would recommend him to anyone in the Albany, NY area who is thinking about this surgery.

Edit - 9/08/10
Dr. Ward Dunnican was killed in a motorcycle accident last night. I am deeply saddened by this. He was a very skilled surgeon who was only 38 years old with a wife and 3 daughters.
I dedicate every dress size I go down to him.
Thank you Dr. Dunnican, for changing my life. RIP.

Just an update
on November 18, 2010 10:27 am
Hey y'all!
Things are going really great with me! I'm happy and healthy. According to my scale I'm about 183ish.  I'm wearing a size Large in most tops and a 14 in bottoms, but those are getting a little big. I actually bought a size 13/14 from a store last night in pants. OMG, right! I'm down from a 44DD bra to about a 40DD (38DD if I squeeze).

My hunnie and I went to a concert a few nights ago and he bought me a ladies Large t-shirt from the band. I couldn't believe it fit! I was soooooooo excited! I didn't have to buy a mens shirt and pretend I liked it better. (In fact, I'll post a picture of the shirt in my photos.)

Pouchie is doing good. I think I'm pushing her too much. In fact, I'm a little teeny-tiny bit concerned I am. Today I ate 4 chicken nuggets from wendys for lunch. I attempted to pick the breading off, but got lazy and just ate them as is (so good! but so bad). I've been eating a lot of chili, grilled chicken, yogurt. OMG... speaking of yogurt! I tried Activia Light this week for the first time. Wowza!!!! That stuff makes you go! Both days I had it I had to poosies before I even finished the cup. It works great!

All-in-all I"m feeling fantastic! I feel sexy, full of energy, beautiful, but most important ... I feel healthy. Granted, my hair is still rapidly thinning, and I don't exercise as much as I should. But, I'm doing pretty good. I do yoga on Mondays, and Pilates on Wednesdays. And I walk whenever I get the chance. I just REALLY REALLY need to start toning up. I'm already so flabby in my arms, stomach, and thighs. It's NOT PRETTY. In fact, I'll post a picture of my tummy too. GAG! lol.
I have stretch marks galore, But, small price to pay. I wouldn't take my RNY back if you paid me!

I can't believe I'm only 3.5 months out! I feel so normal. I mean, I KNOW I'm not. Pouchie reminds me I'm not from time to time. But, I'm changed forever, and that change feels normal to me now I guess is what I mean. I'm in no way perfect with my WLS. But I'm happy!

We had people come to the office for a Board Meeting this week. Some of them I hadn't seen in over a year. One guy walked passed me and said he didn't recognize me till later on when he was like, "who is that sitting in Karlys desk?". LOL They all said how wonderful I look. That I'm glowing and look happy and amazing. It was really really nice to hear.

Till next time! Love my OH fam!

3 month check up today
on November 1, 2010 11:05 am
Today I saw my Nutritionist for my 3 month check up. I have hit the dreaded 3 month stall (combined with not eating as well as I should). So I haven't lost anything in about 2 weeks. I am holding at 190, which is fine, once I start exercising more (starting today), I'm sure I'll start dropping again. I just hit a little lazy patch.

Almost all of my labs were back and were good. She was a little worried cause my liver enzymes are a little high. I didn't fess up to the few glasses of wine I've had. But I vowed silently to myself to immediately stomp that out! There's NO WAY I'm messing up this tool I was given. I just had a momentary lapse in good judgement called Reisling.

Anyways... All my labs were good! She didn't have my Vitamin D blood work back which was one of the ones that I'm concerned about mainly because they were so low even before surgery. But she said they'll call me as soon as they get them in.

She said I'm doing great with my weight loss. Since surgery I've lost about 53 lbs. So I hope to keep it up and drop another 40-50 lbs before the honeymoon phase is up.

My new beau is very encouraging when it comes to eating right and for me to work out and tone up. He knows it's REALLY REALLY important to me to take full advantage of my RNY. He's really really great!

My Pouchie is still holding strong. I ate fresh fruit this weekend, and buffalo chicken wing dip with tortilla chips while at a Halloween party. I conciously stayed away from candy and booze. But I grazed and snacked on stuff that I probably shouldn't have. I tried to be good. Ate some cheese and pepperoni, a bite or two of Taco Dip, some grapes & strawberries, and had my water bottle with me all night. Also made sure to get my protein shake in.
Pouchie was good. She didn't fight me with anything. Although I did feel a little gasy towards the end of the night. TMI?

Happy Holidays everyone!
