Surgeon TestimonialWard, DunnicanDr. Dunnican was AMAZING. Besides being young and incredibly handsome (stared in a few fun dreams of mine... But I digress). He is extremely kind and thorough. My very first visit with him he answered every single one of my questions, plus more I didn't even know I had. By my 2nd and 3rd appointments I had every confidence that Dr. Dunnican would be an amazing surgeon, and had absolutely no doubts about him. He was alway apologetic if I had to wait long to see him, and was always very warm and sincere. My surgery went well. He said I had an initial leak that he fixed right up before closing me up, so I'm not worried at all. He came to my room to see me everyday with the exception of my discharge day ... But, he forewarned me that he wouldn't be around until later that day (if I was still in the hospital) so I wasn't concerned.
Dr. Dunnican was very gentle while checking my incisions post op. The EXACT opposite of one of the other Dr.s that came in and put an unnecessary and painful amount of pressure on one of my incision sites the day after surgery (uncool nameless Dr guy).
All in all, I am fully pleased with Dr. Dunnicans care and excellent work. I look forward to my post op appointments with him. And would recommend him to anyone in the Albany, NY area who is thinking about this surgery.
Edit - 9/08/10
Dr. Ward Dunnican was killed in a motorcycle accident last night. I am deeply saddened by this. He was a very skilled surgeon who was only 38 years old with a wife and 3 daughters.
I dedicate every dress size I go down to him.
Thank you Dr. Dunnican, for changing my life. RIP.

The Gap must run HUGE!! on March 26, 2011 7:38 pm
Hey y'all!
So, Here's the scoop. I went to The Gap outlet and tried on a pair of pants in a size 4!!! They fit! I almost cried, right then and there in the dressing room. Now I'm thinking The Gap must run HUGE cause there is no way in the entire world that I am a size 4.
I'm unsure really about what size in Misses I wear because I generally shop in the Juniors department since they have more "youthful" styles. And generally it wear about a size 9 or so in the Juniors dept.
So when at The Gap, and the size 8 was huge, and the 6 was still a little big. I couldn't believe it when the size 4 buttoned and zipped. I bought those suckers (on sale for $6.99 I might add) and also a jean skirt in a size 6.
I left there feeling unbelievable, and still sort of confused. I mean, There's NO WAY!!!!!
I added a pic, it's in my 5+ months out folder.
....
In other news,
I've been on vacation this past week and have been eating incredibly bad. And instead of beating myself up, I'm enjoying myself, reminding myself of the good stuff I have been eating, the fact that I'm doing good with my vitamins and fluids. And come Monday when it's back to work, I'll be back to regular eating and exercising.
The scale read 146 this week, AND, I went on the Wii Fit for the first time since surgery and it said my Mii was in the Normal BMI range!!! I had to take a picture of it
Life is good. I feel good, healthy and happy. Mike and I are doing great. Everyday seems better than the day before. How is that possible?

Power 90 circuit 3-4 = OUCH! on March 14, 2011 5:29 pm
3 days ago we started the hard portion of Power 90. Basically it's faster, more reps on everything like abs, kicks, cardio, push ups, etc. It's no joke!
Even on the first day I could tell I was going to be hurting later just by walking to my car, I felt the pain in my legs. It must have been the Squat/Lunge combo. OUCH!!!
But, if I'm hurting and sore, that must mean it's working, right??
We've been blogging all about it on www.mandkgetfit.com
And of course, I'll post pics at our 60 day mark.
Wish me luck!

Man vs. Food on March 13, 2011 1:58 pm
Can I just say how much I love that show. Watching that guy eat such huuuuuuuge portions is astounding! I can't even begin to understand how that guy can put 6 pounds of nachos (or whatever) into his belly! HOLY CRAP!!
I get so hungry when I watch that show, I always want everything he eats (smaller portions of course).
That is all!
XOXO

Why am I such a slacker? Yes, slacking again. on March 8, 2011 9:37 am
Note: This blog is full of self loathing, reader beware.
I seriously feel like the worst WLS patient in the world right now.
Am I the only one that gets to feeling like that after a particularly UNHEALTHY weekend?
My boyfriend and I went out of town for the weekend to our friends to go to a concert, and go wine tasting. .... To recount all the horrible things I ate would be SO Shameful, but, I said I'd be honest. And this is me fessing up.
Now, keep in mind I didn't eat whole portions of anything. (not that that makes it any better)
Some of the things I ate that I feel so guilty about are:
1/2 a jr. cheeseburger deluxe from Wendy's minus half the bun
1/2 a frosty
1/2 a BLT on wheat minus half the bread & a handful of fries
Flaming hot Cheetos
Diet coke
Wine (Naturally, we were in fact wine tasting after all)
Pretzels, & oyster crackers while Wine tasting
A slice of a chicken quesadilla with chips
A side salad & a bread roll
Girl scout cookies (at least 10 throughout the weekend)
And yesterday because of a snow storm my work ordered in pasta and bread and sandwiches so I had a serving of Ziti with some garlic bread.
Jesus H. Christ.
On top of that we haven't exercised in days and my face is breaking out like CRAZY! And! I haven't been meeting my fluid intake at all! Oh, and I forgot my vitamins all weekend too.
I feel like a complete and utter loser and my surgeon would slap me in the face if he was still with us.
Granted. I made home made turkey chili on Sunday so we have that for the week, and we have fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts in the fridge to cook, and stuff for salads, and greek yogurt, and cheeses, and all that yummy stuff to eat healthy the rest of the week. But I just feel like I took 2 steps backwards this weekend. Cause, I DONT EAT LIKE THAT ANYMORE! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I know the fact that I don't Dump doesn't help me in cases like this. And I usually can show some self control and pass on the girl scout cookies, or the garlic bread. But this weekend that was not the case.
Ok, ok. Self hatred blog is over.
Today is a new day. Yes I've already had a tootsie roll, and desperately wanted to go into the fridge at work and grab a left over piece of garlic bread from yesterdays order. BUT, I didn't.
I ate my left over chicken in vodka sauce with roasted broccoli and I loved it (Honestly, it was amazing!).
I'm taking my vitamins and right on track with my water.
We are back to Power 90 tonight (after our 4 day hiatus). And will have left over Chili and a small salad for dinner.
Here's to a new day!

I'm blogging somewhere else too!!? on March 2, 2011 5:58 pm
My boyfriend Mike and I started a blog about our fitness routine, recipes, goals, and just all around about our journey towards getting healthy. It's in the very begining stages so there isn't much on there. But feel free to venture over and take a look around. I don't know how to add it to my profile permenently or else I would. Anyone know how to add this link on? Sorta like a signature.
Don't worry, I'll still be on here blogging away. This is just something I'm trying with my man to help inspire us to keep up with our exercising. It's actually really fun.

Peace and Love OH family!
